1447 1866 (26 Sept.) A stampless entire letter from England to Yokohama, Japan, via Marseille and Hong Kong, tied by double ring 'LONDON.STREET/PAID' cds in red, alongside double ring 'DRAKE, KLEIN & COHEN/LONDON/26.9.66' private chop in blue green, manuscripted 2/8 in magenta crayon (1/4 half ounce rate via Marseille) on reverse with single ring 'HONG-KONG/7.11.66' transit, Webb type Ai. The earliest date of the Yokohama cds was recorded as 29th Sept. 1866. It was apparently not yet being used as an arrival backstamp. Very rare early incoming cover from England to Yokohama. Ex.
