394 1896 A red colour engraved die proof of essay of the Red Revenue stamp mounted on thick paper; die proof size: 28 x 32mm on thick card size: 97 x 141mm. An extremely rare and fabulous exhibition showpiece. Photo This is believed to be a later modified design after the approval of the adopted design by Sir Robert Hart on 26th March 1896 with the additional eight white dots surrounding the central design (page 5, REVENUE SURCHARGES, L Y Woo Collection). This die proof may be an intermediary stage between the proof signed by Sir Robert Hart and the black die proof numbered “2223” and comes from a recent archive discovery in the UK (Waterlow and Sons Ltd.). The archive included two other examples already sold in auction (PhilaChina 14th May 2016) which have minor differences to this die proof. This is a fascinating new discovery for Chinese philately. 紅印花原票試模票 1896 年雕刻版紅色紅印花試模票於厚身紙，試模票尺寸︰ 28 x 32 毫米，厚身硬紙尺寸︰ 97 x 141 毫米，非常罕有及珍貴之 展覽品。此試模票理應為赫德爵士於 1896 年 3 月 26 號所採納紅印花原票時所不為接納的最後稿件，此試模票四邊均附有 八粒小白圓點圍於票中(相似稿件可參考於吳樂園紅印花一書第五頁)，此試模票可能在赫德爵士所簽署紅印花黑色模票 編號 “2223” 所出現，而此試模票最近在英國的倫敦華德路父子公所的檔案所發展，而在 2016 年 5 月 14 號的香港華郵拍賣 公司成功拍賣此相同試模票，一為紅色，另一為黑色，此新發現的試模票實為中國郵壇之喜訊。 HK$ 1,200,000 - 1,500,000 65
