Mdukatshani - Fifty Years of Beading
THE STOPS That’s what the women call them – the “stops”. Not the bus stops, nor the taxi stops, but their own stops, the places on the side of the road where they wait for work to be collected. The time is set at emini , which means day, daytime, midday, or noon. The first to arrive draws others, and long after the work has been collected, the women sit on, enjoying the chatter. The stop is a place to watch the world passing by, and they’re in no hurry to go home.
