o Instill employees, beneficiaries and volunteers with so much love and pride for the brand that they freely advocate its virtues to customers, friends, and family members • WESSA should ‘walk the talk’ with sustainable good practice through its energy-saving and carbon footprint policies throughout its procurement chains • Professional facilitators should be appointed to strengthen the organizational culture by healing rifts that have developed between volunteers and staff and among staff, paving the way for ‘One WESSA’ – to sync WESSA stakeholder values • In-depth stakeholder mapping should identify who are customers, employees, supporters, collaborators • Launch ‘One WESSA’ with a national campaign and supporter drive - once the governance and membership model has been clarified • Ensure consistency in culture, brand and logos and communicate these, leveraging social media • The WESSA brand has potential to be part of a value proposition that is valuable, rare and unmatched. “WESSA uses thought leadership and innovation to provide solutions to complex environmental problems; WESSA mobilizes society; being part of WESSA provides a unique and inspiring experience” o Living the WESSA brand means living in harmony with nature, sustainability, activism, restitution, people-friendly conservation and social-ecological resilience o Position WESSA to take the leadership role that beckons • Example of a clear brand statement: “WESSA enables corporations, government, donor organizations and civil society who are passionate about caring for the Earth to: o be worthy environmental stewards, o make a meaningful difference on the ground o and get fulfillment and recognition for their contributions” 7.7 Financial sustainability
7.7.1 Opportunity: Become a lean, flat organization
Strategy: review all programmes i.t.o. focus vs reward and risk • Programmes can be categorized in terms of a) their financial rewards and b) strategic focus, with consideration of c) risk. Figure 11 is an example of an Exco exercise that has been facilitated. [Note the lack of entries in the ‘don’t do it’ column]
