instruction were offered, as follows: Citizenship (2 hours), Criminal Investigation and Function (4 hours), Criminal Law/Constitutional Law (2 hours), Criminal Procedure (2 hours), Drug & Alcohol Abuse (4 hours), Police Organization & Function (4 hours), and Responsi bility & Accountability (4 hours). Four Washington, D.C. field trips were conducted during this initial YLP session, including FBI Headquarters (J. Edgar Hoover Building); Supreme Court; White House and U.S. Capitol. Addition ally, visits were made to the Ford’s Theater, Kennedy Center, and National Police Memorial. Twenty students attended this initial session, ranging in age from 14 to 18, and representing the following 14 FBINAA chapters: Alabama, Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, New England, New Jersey, New York, Rocky Mountain, South Carolina, Tennes see, Texas, West Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Session Number 1 of the FBINAA YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM proved to be highly successful, both by a review of the student critiques received by the YLP committee, and by the fact that the program has continued on an annual basis for the past quarter of a century (notwithstanding the slight deviation in 2013 due to the government sequestration and in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic). Although the curriculum has deviated from the initial ap proach, and the students selected to attend include fifty percent of children and grandchildren of FBINA graduates, it can be stated without hesitation that the YLP continues to be what was once stated as “The Flagship of the National Academy Associates.” I am personally pleased and comforted to know the Youth Leadership Program has proven so rewarding to countless young folks!” The program that JimWeyant fought

so hard to make happen has grown from the original 20 attendees representing 14 chapters to the current number of 62 attendees represent ing 40 states and 4 international countries. It has spawned its own alumni group who elects officers, keeps track of each other and has their own meeting during the National Conference. If you were to attend one of these meetings, you would hear of how many graduates have gone into amazing careers, many in public service. They often cite the impression that the YLP had on them. We all owe a debt of gratitude for the perseverance of members like JimWeyant . And if you know of a student who will fit the criteria to attend the 25th session in 2024, it is never too early to get them excited about the idea of being sponsored by you and your chapter.
