This panel discussion will look at how technology can enhance your staff’s ability, efficiency, and effectiveness; how technology can further enable recruitment, training and retention; and more ways to connect with your community in new ways. Commander Marcus Claycomb serves as the Business Development Manager for Public Sector at Panasonic. He sup ports the fields of law enforcement, fire/rescue, and medical. Specifically, Marcus works with internal and external partners to increase and enhance existing technologies in addition to working with those same partners to create new technologies and products to fill the “need void” in those fields. Marcus started his career in medical & fire rescue and recently retired from a 30 year career in law enforcement. He earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration from Bellevue University and holds an associate’s degree in computer network administration. Sergeant Thomas Porto was hired in January 2002 and is a 17 years veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department located in New Jersey. Fort Lee is the host Borough to the George Washington Bridge, which is known as one of the world’s busiest bridges and connects New Jersey to New York City. He has been the Director of Information Technology for the past 10 years and holds a certificate from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as a Certified Government Chief Information Officer. He sits on the board of the New Jersey Chapter of GMIS International as the liaison to Law Enforce ment and serves as our department’s TAC Officer. The Division of Information Technology oversees a deployment of 40 Panasonic Toughbook CF-54's as well as many other assets. Sgt. Porto has been instrumental in many Law Enforcement Technology Projects as well as many infrastructure upgrades to ensure our systems are highly available. Some important projects include the migration of the Police De partment's Infrastructure from a physical environment to a highly redundant virtual infrastructure with multiple hosts running VMWare as the hypervisor. He has led the implementation of Network, Firewall and Storage Upgrades. He led with the design, planning and implementation of redundant Generators for backup power. He led with the design, planning and implementation of the removal of wet sprinkler systems and installation of Pre-Action Dry Sprinkler Sys tems and FM-200 Systems in our MDF and IDF. He led the design, planning and implementation of the Committee and transitioned our Department to our new systems flawlessly. Our state-of- the-art Dispatch Center and E-911 Systems. He was an instrumental member of our recent CAD/RMS Upgrade are notable projects he has led include the imple mentation of Electronic Ticketing, City-Wide Fixed License Plate Readers, Electronic Police Officer Scheduling, IP CCTV Upgrades and Telephone System Upgrades. He manages our City owned and operated fiber WAN, which our active IP Traffic Camera System operates. He holds certifications in A+, Network+ and Security+. John Verdi is a retired law enforcement officer from NYC and a 9/11 First Responder. John received a degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University and is the Founder of the Hey, Blue! Initiative: an interactive approach to creating meaningful connections between police officers and the communities they serve. John is also the co-founder of the Verdi EcoSchool, the only place and project based urban farm school in the southeastern US. John is a proud husband to his wife Ayana, father to his 2 children Giovanni and Annabella and enjoys making connections with people in his community. Is There Enough Being Done to Save Law Enforcement Officers from Themselves? A Quantitative Study of Officers’ Perspective Regarding Police Suicide and Law Enforcement Organizational Assistance Dr. Darwin Jones , Captain, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (LA); FBINA Graduate Session 252 1.5 hours education credit Currently, more officers have committed suicide than those that died in the line of duty for the last several years (ex cluding 2020 & 2021). This research draws upon general strain theory and rational choice theory, and relevant litera ture to examine the impact of resilience and perceived organizational provision regarding the prevention of police officer suicide. The theoretical framework is offered via the general strain theory and the rational choice theory as related to suicide. Researchers suggest that police officers are more susceptible to suicide than the general popu lation and that more officers die by self-murder than in the line of duty. The information related to the frontline officer’s perspective of organizational response and prevention methods is limited. The review contains information on past research, understanding police officer suicide, and variables of police officer suicide. The researcher placed a heavy emphasis on exposure to PTSD, stress, and prevention efforts. Dr. Darwin Lynn Jones was born and raised in Cedar Grove, Shreveport, Louisiana and is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He is the tenth of thirteen children and currently serves his community as a Captain with Caddo Parish Sher iff's Office. Jones is assigned as Commander of the Judicial Services Division which includes the Civil, Fines and Bonds,
