Commander Randy McNitt is a 25 year veteran of the Lakewood Police Department currently assigned as a command er in the Investigations Division. He has held a variety of assignments throughout his career including patrol, juvenile crime, community policing, Special Enforcement Team/ Gang Unit, and Internal Affairs. He also served as an operator and a sergeant on the SWAT team and as a PIO. Commander McNitt is a graduate of Session 280 of the FBI National Academy. Police Agent Ashley Ferris has served with the Lakewood Police Department since January, 2018, and also served her country for four years in the Army Reserves. On December 27, 2021 Agent Ferris was shot by a suspect who had already murdered five citizens and shot a sixth. Seriously injured and on the ground, Agent Ferris continued to fight and shot and killed the suspect, ending his murderous rampage. Agent Ferris has received numerous awards for her heroic ac tions, including the Lakewood Police Department Medal of Valor, Women of Law Enforcement 2022 RISE Award, and the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. Dr. Kimberly Miller is a licensed police and public safety psychologist and sought-after speaker/consultant who has been inspiring and motivating individuals in our profession for over 18 years. Dr. Miller has worked with hundreds of public safety organizations and provided training for tens of thousands of students around the country through her local, regional, national and online training programs. She is a strength-based facilitator of individual and organizational change and is known for her relationship-based approach to her work and the skill-based, engaging training and consultation services she offers. Dr. Miller also has significant experience in leadership, coaching and mentoring with over 30 years of serving in supervisory and leader ship roles and is currently the president of both the National Sheriffs’ Association and Small & Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association Psychological Services Boards. Executive Leadership and Mindfulness Captain Tim Gately , Redmond Police Department (WA); MPA; MA; Founder, Timothy J Enterprises LLC; FBINA Graduate Session 261 1.5 hours education credit This presentation explores concepts of mindfulness from the practical perspective of public service and emergen cy responders. Concepts are designed to engage and review current trends and practices, incorporating themes from 21st Century Policing and the IACP “P.R.E.P. for Duty” models. The presentation uses reflection, discussion, and video examples to explore Mindfulness Concepts, Personal & Organizational Leadership, Structure of Philoso phy, Personal Vision & Character, Operational Applications of Mindfulness, Police Training Considerations, and Leading for Legacy. Captain Tim Gately is the founder of Timothy J Enterprises LLC, a management consulting firm specializing in con temporary training, public administration and leadership. A 23-year law enforcement veteran, Tim currently serves as Captain for the Redmond, WA Police Dept. His command assignments have included patrol operations, criminal investigations, and administration. Before joining Redmond in 2004, Tim served as a Washington State Patrol Trooper for 5 years in the Seattle area. He currently serves as Principal Faculty for the City University of Seattle Criminal Justice Program and as Coordinator for the FBI NAA Youth Leadership Program. Tim holds a Master of Public Administration (EMPA) from the University of Washington, a Master of Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego, and a B.S. in Communications from the City University of Seattle. He is a graduate of FBI National Academy Session #261, the Executive Leadership Institute at Drucker School of Management, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
