LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

FBINAA MEMBERS MAKE UP THE HIGHEST 1% OF ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADERSHIP IN THE WORLD

The year 2020 marked the 85th Anniversary of the FBI National Academy. As graduates and alumni of the National Academy, it is our responsibility to carry on that legacy and provide extraordinary leadership training and engaging networking opportunities for our members. How did we do that in a year full of challenges? For true leaders, challenges don’t provide obstacles...they provide opportunity. While 2020, as you all know, provided more than its fair share of challenges, the FBINAA responded by taking those challenges head on and forged ahead. Let’s look back on some of the accomplishments of 2020. MEMBERSHIP As with any association, our membership is our lifeblood and our focus. Although most of the FBI National Academy sessions were halted due to the pandemic, I am proud to report that our membership numbers held strong in 2020. I believe that speaks to the value our members see in this Association, the work we do, the peer- to-peer engagement, and networking that this Association is built on. It’s our Super Power. We are also seeing a trend with our retired members. Their numbers are growing and they are staying active and involved in the Association. This group has such vast experience and oȂers valuable wisdom and perspective that continues to enhance and augment our member community. We are con ޔ dent that our membership numbers and engagement will continue to be strong in 2021 and we will continue to provide our members with the education, training, and resources they have come to expect from this leadership association. EDUCATION AND NETWORKING One of the great rewards of my position is to meet our many members and other representatives of our law enforcement community at our local and national confer - ences over the year. The events of 2020 made this an impossibility. However, one of the great strengths of the Association is its ability to react quickly and pivot to meet the needs of our members. Some of the highlights of 2020 include:

1. “CONNECTING LEADERS” VIRTUAL EVENT: This event covered several days of education and training and was attended by 2,000 FBINAA members and law enforcement personnel. 2. EDUCATION & TRAINING WEBINARS: We have continued to build on this training platform and have delivered a full calendar of programs and content to address critical concerns within the law enforcement community. 3. LEADERSHIP APB PODCASTS: This new monthly initiative was launched mid-year with an impressive line-up of law Enforcement leaders sharing their perspective and expertise. These popular broadcasts are available in an ON DEMAND library. These virtual events and education opportunities will continue to be conducted through the ޔ rst half of 2021 with the hope that we will all be able to meet in person in the second half of the year. FINANCIALS I am proud to report the ޔ nancial health of the Association is strong. The reasons for this are numerous. One of the key areas of strength is in our alliance sponsors, all of whom can be found on pages 16-17 of this report. We will continue to forge strong rela - tionships with our partners in sponsorship who bring tremendous support and value to the Association and its membership. In closing, I want to thank the National Board for their support throughout 2020; the amazing and dedicated National OȂice StaȂ and the steadfast dedication of our Execu - tive Director Howard Cook. I would also like to thank our members for your continued involvement in this great Association.

LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I think we can all agree the past year was one like no other. For many of us, both professionally and personally, 2020 provided many unique challenges. Other orga - nizations saw these as obstacles and struggled to overcome what came their way. However, time and again, the FBINAA has shown the innate ability to take those chal - lenges head on and overcome them. 2020 proved to be no diȂerent. Our world has quickly become a virtual community. Zoom calls, which once were “nice to haves”, are now the order of the day. Large conventions and Chapter Training events, where we had the opportunity to network and participate in education face- to-face, are now done from our desktops, laptops and smartphones. Our goal was to make these events interactive, informative and time well spent. In 2020, the Associa - tion did just that. These virtual events, some of which were put into practice for the ޔ rst time in 2020, will continue through the ޔ rst half of 2021. They will continue to provide to our members the same opportunities to meet, share ideas, and enhance our leadership abilities as members of the law enforcement community. While we can’t foresee what the second half of 2021 will bring, we are hopeful to be able to participate in these events in a live environment. No matter how we meet and interact, the Association’s Mission remains the same: To impact communities by providing and promoting law enforcement leadership through training and networking. Thank you all for your continued dedication to and involvement in the FBI National Academy Associates in 2020. Our organization and our members are strong and resilient, and I look forward to my involvement in the coming year and beyond.

LEADERSHIP APB PODCAST SERIES

SCHOOL SHOOTING PREVENTION LEADERSHIP FORUMS

In 2020, the FBINAA introduce a new podcast series entitled Leadership APB. The monthly Leadership APB podcast series engages law enforcement and public safety executives in discus - sions on timely and current topics aȂecting ޔ rst responders around the world. These leaders share their leadership and managerial philosophies, successes, and obstacles they have encountered in their careers. The Podcast Series is a free audio program distributed to FBI National Academy Associates members, their staȂ, and other law enforcement executives that provide our communities, states, countries, and profession with the highest degree of law enforcement professionalism and expertise. The Leadership APB podcast series is broadcasted on the ޔ rst Wednesday of each month. In 2020, six episodes aired with a listenership of over 5,000 members and nonmembers.

In spite of the shutdown of communities around the country, we were still able to conduct six School Shooting Prevention Leadership Forums. The goal of these Forums is to provide school administrators and public safety leaders with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to improve the overall security of their community’s schools while developing a coordinated plan for a crisis response.
