1 LASCELLS BOYLES LAW APPARATUS - DIGITAL The Digital Boyle’s Law Apparatus provides a self contained, reliable and simple way of demonstrating Boyle’s Law. The volume may be reduced or increased by means of a 2.5ml syringe connected to a digital pressure sensor. The sensor output is calibrated to display the pressure in kPa on the easy to read LCD display. There is a measurable change in pressure for every 0.1ml change in volume, allowing many data points to be taken and a graph plotted to confirm Boyle’s Law. For demonstration purposes two 4mm sockets are provided to allow the pressure reading to be displayed on a large demonstration voltmeter meter (not supplied) and a length of tubing is provided to allow a larger syringe to be used if necessary. Supplied with full instructions and one 9V PP3 battery. Cat No. Description Price Per HPG-245-110 Boyles Law Digital Apparatus 123.08 ea. 2 BOYLE’S LAW APPARATUS - COMPACT -NEW! This compact Boyle’s law apparatus provides a simple and convenient way to demonstrate the relationship between pressure and volume of gas. Mounted on a durable base, the apparatus consists of 30mm diameter graduated cylinder with a thumbscrew lever at the top and a piston inside. As the lever is turned, it pushes down the piston inside, reducing the volume of air inside the cylinder whilst increasing the pressure. The increase in pressure is registered on a bourdon gauge, which is connected to the cylinder. The bourdon gauge measures in psi and kilopascals (kPa or 105Pa), with the needle set at atmospheric pressure. Also included is an integral digital thermometer, which registers the temperature (requires 1.5 v AA battery). Overall height of apparatus is approx. 21cm. Cat No. Description Price Per HPG-175-100 Boyle’s Law Apparatus - Compact 89.45 ea. 3 GAS DIFFUSION TUBE An open-ended, 500 mm long borosilicate glass tube, ideal for the ‘diffusion of gases experiment’. Cotton wool soaked in concentrated ammonia solution is placed in one end of the tube and cotton wool with concentrated hydrochloric acid is placed in the other end. Both ends are stoppered with bungs, to contain the fumes. The gases diffuse along the tube from both ends, and where they meet a white ring of ammonium chloride forms. Tube ends have been fired (smoothed), for safety purposes. Supplied without stoppers (33 mm or 35 mm solid stoppers required). Cat No. Description Length O.D. Wall Price Per TUG-200-050 Diffusion Tube 500mm 40mm 2.3mm 24.34 ea. 4 CONVECTION IN AIR APPARATUS Also known as the mine shaft apparatus, as it uses the same principal which was historically used to ventilate metal mines. A candle represents the furnace which was used at the time (early 19th century) to heat air at the bottom of one of the mine shafts, causing stale air it to rise up to the surface, resulting in fresh air being drawn down another shaft and into the mine, to ventilate it. The apparatus consists of a metal box with a sliding glass plate at the front, with two glass chimneys mounted above holes in the top of the box (the ‘mine shafts’). A small candle or tea light is then placed below one of the chimneys and lit. The heat from the flame causes warm air to rise up the chimney, due to the convection currents created, resulting in cooler air then being drawn down the other chimney to replace it. In order to visualise the movement of air, a smoke match or smouldering piece of cardboard or string can be held close to the opening of the chimney which does not have the candle underneath; the smoke can be seen being drawn down into the box and back out through the other chimney. Dimensions: 220 x 100 x 165 mm approx. Cat No. Description Price Per HPG-400-100 Convection in Air Apparatus 28.66 ea. HPG-400-150 Spare Chimneys 9.23 pr
