1 THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY BARS Apparatus providing an easy and visual demonstration of the varying thermal conductivities of four different metals. The conductivity kit can be used to investigate rates of conductivity when subjected to a heat source (e.g. a beaker of hot water) or a cold source (e.g. iced water). The temperature sensitive liquid crystal strip on each bar changes colour to show the temperature graduation along each bar. Supplied as a set of 4 parallel metal bars (one each of copper, aluminium, brass and steel) fixed to a rigid plastic carrier. Each bar has a liquid crystal temperature sensitive strip attached a with graduation scale, which changes colour between 35°C and 45°C. Thermal conductivity values are printed on the back. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-550-100 Thermal Conductivity Bars 35.40 ea. 2 WOOD METAL CYLINDER Comprising a cylinder, one half of which is solid wood and the other half a metal tube. If paper is wrapped tightly around the cylinder and the rod is held above a flame, the portion in contact with the wood will be quickly scorched, while the portion in contact with the metal will remain uncharred, showing the differences in their respective thermal conductivities. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-600-100 Wood Metal Cylinder - Standard 17.60 ea. HTC-600-150 Wood Metal Cylinder - Basic 14.62 ea. 3 INFRARED PROBE - NEW! This IR probe utilises a phototransistor with maximum response in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, at around 940 nm. The phototransistor is mounted on the end of a fibreglass wand and fitted to 250mm flying leads with 4mm plugs. When connected to a suitable voltmeter or multimeter, the probe will produce a qualitative reading proportional to the amount of infrared radiation incident on its sensitive face. Supplied with instructions. Requires connection to a multimeter or low voltage digital voltmeter, sensitive to at least 0.01V. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-320-100 Infrared Probe 22.23 ea. 4 INGENHAUZE’S CONDUCTIVITY APPARATUS Useful apparatus for comparison of the heat conductivity of different metal rods. The apparatus consists of six metal rods, one each of copper, iron, lead, aluminium, steel and zinc, fixed horizontally through separate rubber stoppers in holes in the side of a metal tank. The rods have one end inside the tank, while the other end projects through to the outside. The outside ends of the rods are coated with (or dipped in) paraffin (candle) wax, and the tank is filled with water, which is then heated (or very hot water can be poured in to start with). The rates of melting of the wax on the different rods, as heat is conducted through the metals, can be compared, to demonstrate their relative conductivities. Trough dimensions: 150 x 90 x 100mm (l x w x h) approx. Rod dimensions: 150 x 3mm (l x dia.) approx. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-300-100 Ingenhauze’s Conductivity Apparatus 27.30 ea. 5 HEAT ABSORPTION RADIATION APPARATUS This apparatus provides an easy way to demonstrate comparative heat absorption from a radiated heat source. The apparatus uses a 12 V 24W bulb as a heat source, with 2 parabolic metal dishes for heat absorption - one finished in black and one in shiny metal. The dishes include integral holders for thermometers, to allow comparison of temperature readings (thermometers not included). Comes complete with instructions. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-450-100 Heat Absorption & Radiation Apparatus 33.05 ea.
