1 EDDY CURRENT - DEMONSTRATION This kit consists of two tubes (made from copper and plastic, each about 250mm long) and two discs (a supermagnet and an aluminium disc of a similar size). When the supermagnet is dropped down the copper tube, it falls much more slowly than might be expected. The other tube/disc combinations do not show this effect, since eddy currents are only produced using the copper tube and the supermagnet. Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-150-100 Eddy Current Demonstration 19.14 set 2 SEARCH COIL - STANDARD This Search Coil is designed to detect fluctuating magnetic field. It comprises a 3,200 turn coil mounted on a Perspex handle and is terminated with stackable 4mm plugs. In use the search coil acts like the secondary of a transformer to detect fluctuating magnetic fields. It may be used to measure field strength and shape and may also be used to demonstrate transformer action. The search coil is designed to be connected to either an oscilloscope or a 200 mV a.c meter (or multimeter). Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-375-150 Search Coil 43.90 ea. 3 LASCELLS SEARCH COIL - SUPERIOR A 3300 turn, 25mm diameter coil on a plastic handle for investigating changing magnetic fields. In use the device is connected to an AC millivoltmeter or oscilloscope by means of the 4mm flying leads. Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-385-100 Search Coil 38.83 ea. 4 LASCELLS GAUSS GUN The Gauss Gun provides a safe but dramatic demonstration of the acceleration of a body in a magnetic field and the conservation of momentum. It uses groups of high strength neodymium magnets to accelerate steel ball bearings with the whole assembly contained in a closed, transparent plastic tube for safety. A great discussion experiment on the nature and strength of magnetic fields, momentum, conservation of energy etc. Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-135-100 Gauss Gun 23.33 ea. 5 3-D MAGNETIC FIELD WAND This simple but effective product demonstrates the 3-dimensional properties of magnetic fields. The magnetic field indicator consists of a small bar magnet mounted at the end of a handle in such a way that it can freely rotate within a 360-degree spherical domain, displaying the 3D nature of magnetic fields. Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-340-100 3-D Magnetic Field Wand 8.62 ea. 6 FERRO FLUID Consists of micron size magnetic particles (magnetite) in a mineral oil. Particles are coated in a surfactant which prevents them clumping together. When a magnet is in close proximity the magnetic particles in the Ferrofluid take up the shape of the magnetic field. Supplied in a plastic jar containing 10ml of Ferrofluid and a rare earth magnet. Cat No. Description Price Per SMP-150-100 Ferro Fluid 11.90 ea. 7 LASCELLS HALL EFFECT PROBE The unit is ideal for measuring magnetic fields ranging from strong, permanent magnets down to weak fields such as that of the Earth. The range is -70mT to +70mT and the readout is displayed in Tesla on the integral display. Three range settings allow field strengths from 1 x 10-5T to 70mT to be displayed. The sensor output is also taken to 4mm sockets to allow a digital multi-meter (not supplied) to be connected. Output from the sensor is in the range -2.5 to +2.5V. The control circuitry and display are contained in a robust case with the sensor mounted in a 90° probe Cat No. Description Price Per MFL-555-100 Hall Effect Probe 108.20 ea.
