2 IPC SCALER TIMER FREQUENCY METER A multi-purpose instrument which is invaluable in the physics laboratory, combining the functions of a multi-purpose timer, a ratemeter and a frequency meter in one compact unit. It has four, 7-segment LED digits, 13mm high. The high brightness and large size display make it ideal for classroom demonstrations. It can be used as a simple stopwatch or more sophisticated applications such as dynamics experiments with air tracks etc. The scaler and ratemeter modes allow numerous radioactivity experiments to be undertaken. When used as a frequency meter the instrument will accept diversified waveforms and may be used to determine the rotational frequency of a stroboscope disc and for displaying the frequency of a waveform from a signal generator. The instrument can be pulse operated to enable moving bodies to be timed using photo-timing gates. When used as a scaler or ratemeter the input signal can be via either a GM tube or a solid-state detector (mostly obsolete now), with an audio output. Housed in a robust metal case with a durable powder coated finish. This timer has a TNC connector for connecting a GM tube. The test source consists of a transparent acrylic slide with a 13mm diameter disc containing 300mg of Potassium chloride, which is a naturally occurring radioactive compound due to the presence of 0.0117% of Potassium-40 (K-40). Due to the extremely low activity of Potassium compounds, the test source is not classed as a radioactive source, and does not need to be labelled or treated as such. 3 3B SCALER TIMER Digital counter/timer for measuring duration of motion, transition times, periods, pendulum periods, frequencies, as well as for counting events or Geiger tube pulses. Includes a speaker that can be turned on and off and power supplies for direct connection to light gates or a Geiger-Muller counter. For event counting, a fixed counting period can be programmed in a range from 0.1ms to 99999s. Counter events (e.g. start or stop) can either be triggered by a signal to the input sockets or manually via switches. The unit includes a plug-in power supply.
