PJC 25.9 Other Serious Bodily Injury of First Responder— Question PJC 25.9A Other Serious Bodily Injury of First Responder— Question—When Claimant Appeals QUESTION ______ Did Paul Payne sustain a serious bodily injury in the course and scope of his employment or volunteer service as a first responder that renders him perma nently unemployable? “First responder” means an individual who is a peace officer, emergency care attendant, advanced emergency medical technician, emergency medical technician-paramedic, licensed paramedic, firefighter, or person providing vol unteer services as a volunteer firefighter or emergency medical services volun teer. “Serious bodily injury” means bodily injury that creates a substantial risk of death or that causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ. “Serious bodily injury” does not include [ list any injury described in Tex. Lab. Code § 408.161(a)(1)–(7) that is raised by the evidence ].
