Gaffney, Joseph P. Tyrrell, William J. Norman, Arthur Cox, George A. Nolan, Reginald J. Nolan, James J. O’Connor. The following was among the business transacted : Circuit Appeals. Subpoenas. Members wrote referring to the inconvenience of the practice whereby subpoenas for the hearing of Circuit appeals in the country can be issued only by the Central Office o f the High Court in Dublin. The matter was referred to a Committee which reported that it would be an advantage to members practising in the country if subpoenas fo the hearing of Circuit appeals could be issued by the County Registrar without reference to Dublin.

The Society’s representatives on the Superior Courts Rules Committee were asked to bring the matter before that Committee with a view to the passing of new rules giving effect to the Committee’s recommendation. Appointment o f Notary Public. The Secretary reported that he had received notice o f an application by a person who is not a solicitor for appointment as Notary Public. It was ordered that counsel should be briefed to oppose the application and that counsel should submit that having regard to the responsible duties o f the office an application for appointment as a Notary by a person without professional legal qualifications should not be granted. EXAMINATION RESULTS. A t the Intermediate Examination for apprentices to solicitors held on May 10th and n th , the following candidates were successful. Passed with Merit. i. Dermot J. Moloney ; z. Brendan O’R. Rogers ; 3. Dermot Hegarty ; 4. Noel M. Gleeson.
