HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS - FREE (Ages 8+) Sat, Oct. 20, 1-7 p.m., Montgomery County Government Center The Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is required for all 12-15 year-olds, and any first time license buyers. Students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Download a free self-study manual at the following website, https:// www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/ education/hunter-education- course/, or you may pick up a copy at our office in the Montgomery County Government Center. BOATING SAFETYEDUCATION COURSE – FREE (Ages 16+) Sat, Oct. 26, 8-5 p.m., Montgomery County Government Center As of 2016, all operators of PWCs (Personal Watercraft such as jet- skis, Sea Doos, Wave Runners, etc.) and operators of Motorboats with a 10hp or greater motor are required to have a boating safety education course completion card on board while operating their watercraft. Recreation are proud to present the 10th Annual New River Paddle Fishing Tournament! Test your bass fishing skills in the prime waters of the New River against other local anglers and see if you have what it takes to land the big one! The tournament format is catch, photo, and release. All proceeds of the NRPFT go to the New River Conservancy. The tournament will cover an extended stretch on the New River from the Claytor dam to the West Virginia line. There will be Men’s and Women’s Spinning, Adult Open, Adult Fly, and Junior (16 and under) categories. Minors must have consent from a parent or guardian in order to participate. Registration includes entry into the tournament, a 2019 tournament t-shirt, shuttle transportation from tournament headquarters to Whitethorne, a catered dinner, live music, and raffle entry.
