IRON HEART WINERY - $30 Fri, Jun 7, Allisonia, VA Come tour this family owned farm and winery nestled in Allisonia, which was once a boom town for railroading and iron mining. You will learn about the history of the area, and have an opportunity for tasting their eight wines made from fruit grown on the farm. A picnic lunch will be provided, followed by an afternoon hike on the New River Trail. Register by May 30. Level I, Course 6619 Location Pick-up Return F&M 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. MCGC 9:00 a.m 4:00 p.m. MILL MOUNTAIN - $23 Thur, Sept 12, Roanoke, VA Visit the unique pocket zoo nestled atop Mill Mountain next to Roanoke’s famous star landmark, home to vulnerable and endangered species like red pandas, snow leopards, and red wolves. Spend time learning at the Mill Mountain Discovery Center, and enjoy a short hike along a portion of the Mill Mountain Star Trail. Lunch is on your own at the Roanoker Restaurant. SANDSTONE FALLS - $20 Fri, Sept 20, Sandstone, WV As the largest waterfall on the New River, Sandstone Falls spans the river over 1,500 feet at its widest point. The falls form the starting point for the New River’s final rush through the gorge to its confluence with the Gauley River. You will also visit the Hinton Railroad Museum filled with local history, artifacts from the early days of the C&O Railroad, as well as tools used during the time of John Henry, the Steel Drivin’ Man.
