Downtown Alley PEAKY BLINDERS: SEASON TWO

Will Ferrell is the financier who is framed for fraud by his boss and is now facing a lengthy jail term; Kevin Hart is the man he hires to toughen himself up for life inside in the mistaken belief that because he is black, he must have been to prison. It’s not in the same class as the similarly themed comedy classic Trading Places and the hysterical homophobia doesn't help. But no-one expects political correctness from a Ferrell comedy and the gross gags won't disappoint his fans. OUT: 29/07/15 Black Sails: Complete Second Season With Season Two, this racy and violent prequel to Treasure Island joins the ranks of must-see TV, somewhere between Vikings and Game of Thrones . Characters are more fully fleshed this season; Captain Flint's backstory yields some truly unexpected surprises, while John Silver begins his progression from self-serving rogue to respected crewmember. And an explosive final episode guarantees not everyone will be back for Season Three. OUT: 09/07/15 RE-ANIMATOR It's been 30 years since our jaw first hit the floor during Stuart Gordon's outrageous H.P. Lovecraft adaptation. Now this horror cult classic about the Frankenstein-like experiments of the demented Dr Herbert West (the brilliant Jeffrey Combs) has deservedly received the deluxe High-Def treatment with this cool reissue featuring the longer unct version version and loads of extras. If you've never seen it, prepared to be amazed. OUT: 22/07/15 THE MUSKETEERS: Series two France and Spain are on the brink of war as Athos, Aramis, Porthos and D'Artagnan return for more swashbuckling in 10 all- new episodes of the BBC's fun historical adventure series. Marc Warren (from Mad Dogs and Hustle ) joins the cast as Rochefort, replacing Peter Capaldi's Cardinal Richelieu as the show's resident villain. Download the digital copy of this mag on the STACK App to access a Q&A with Warren. OUT: 22/07/15 FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC V.C. Andrews' controversial 1979 bestseller was a gothic tale of dark family secrets and imprisoned children. Recently revived as a telemovie, this is the 1987 theatrical version starring Louise Fletcher as the fearsome grandmother who keeps her "bastard" grandchildren in the attic of her gloomy mansion, lest they shame the family name. Difficult to see since the VHS days, this '80s curio is ready to be rediscovered. OUT: 09/07/15 THE HUMBLING There's more than a hint of Birdman about this backstage dramedy from director Barry Levinson, featuring Al Pacino as a suicidal, has-been actor attempting to make a comeback on Broadway. But in this case, it's an unlikely romance with a younger, lesbian woman (Greta Gerwig) that proves instrumental in his salvation and coaxes all sorts of oddball characters out of the woodwork. Release Date: 01/07/15

Format:

Set in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War One, Cillian Murphy returns as Brummie crime boss Thomas Shelby, leader of the eponymous gang – their name deriving from the razor blades sewn into the rim of their caps. In the riveting second season, Shelby sets about expanding the Peaky Blinders' operations to the capital, sparking a violent turf war with London crime boss Derby Sabini (Noah Taylor). At the same time, he tries to disentangle himself from the machiavellian games of his nemesis, Chief

Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill), who is now working for British intelligence. Keep an eye out, too, for an almost recognisable Tom Hardy, who guests as a yiddish gangster. It's Breaking Bad meets Downton Abbey , and highly recommended.

Rowlings' new Chamber of Secrets A CASUAL VACANCY

Release Date: 08/07/15

Format:

Although it stars Professor Dumbledore himself, Michael Gambon, the latest JK Rowling screen adaptation couldn’t be further away from the wizards and fantastic beasts of Harry Potter. Based on her first adult novel, The Casual Vacancy is a three part mini-series set against the backdrop of village intrigue and parish council politics in a sleepy West Country community. As well as Gambon as the pompous council chairman, the starry ensemble includes Keeley Hawes as his milf daughter-in-law,

Simon McBurney as the neurotic school head and Rory Kinnear as the beloved local councilor, whose untimely death prompts the election of the title. A wry and gently barbed look at class snobbery and small town values, this is a must for fans of quality BBC drama.
