Section 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media Dry chemical, CO2, water spray or alcohol-resistant foam.

Not to be used for safety reasons: Strong water jet

Specific hazards arising from the chemical Burning produces heavy smoke. Fire may produce irritating and/or toxic gases. In the event of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. May cause sensitization by skin contact. Special protective equipment for fire-fighters Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. Do not allow run-off from fire-fighting to enter drains or water courses.

Section 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions Avoid breathing vapors or mists. Remove all sources of ignition. Use personal protective equipment as required. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

For emergency responders Use personal protection recommended in Section 8.

Environmental precautions

Do not allow into any sewer, on the ground or into any body of water. If the product contaminates lakes, rivers or sewage, inform appropriate authorities in accordance with local regulations. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for containment Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Methods for cleaning up Dispose of waste product or used containers according to local regulations. Clean with detergents. Avoid solvent cleaners. Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Take up mechanically, placing in

Page 3 / 9

appropriate containers for disposal. Pick up and transfer to properly labeled containers.

Section 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling Prevent the creation of flammable or explosive concentrations of vapor in air and avoid vapor concentration higher than the occupational exposure limits. Operators should wear anti-static footwear and clothing and floors should be of the conducting type. Use personal protection recommended in Section 8. Never use pressure to empty container. Comply with the health and safety at work laws. Prevent product from entering drains. Vapors are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Keep away from heat, sparks, flame and other sources of ignition (i.e., pilot lights, electric motors and static electricity). Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. All equipment used when handling the product must be grounded.

General Hygiene Considerations Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Storage Conditions Keep/store only in original container. Store in accordance with local regulations. Keep unauthorized personnel away. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Keep tightly closed in a dry and cool place.

Incompatible materials Strong oxidizing agents. Acids.

Eye/face protection Tight sealing safety goggles.

Skin and body protection Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact. Wear suitable protective clothing. Personnel should wear anti-static clothing made of natural fiber or of high temperature resistant synthetic fiber. Hand Protection There is no one glove material or combination of materials that will give unlimited resistance to any individual or combination of chemicals. Ensure that the breakthrough time of the glove material is not exceeded. Refer to glove supplier for information on breakthrough time for specific gloves. The instructions and information provided by the glove manufacturer on use, storage, maintenance and replacement must be followed. Gloves should be replaced regularly and if there is any sign of damage to the glove material. Always ensure that gloves are free from defects and that they are stored and used correctly. The performance or effectiveness of the glove may be reduced by physical / chemical damage and poor maintenance. Wear protective gloves.

Respiratory protection When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators.

Engineering measures

: Use of adequate ventilation should be sufficient to control worker exposure to airborne contaminants. If the use of this product generates dust, fumes, gas, vapor or mist, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure below any recommended or statutory limits. : Use a properly fitted NIOSH approved air-purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. The filter class for the respirator must be suitable for the maximum expected contaminant concentration (gas/vapor/aerosol/particulates) that may arise when handling the product. If this concentration is exceeded, self-contained breathing apparatus must be used. : Chemical-resistant, impervious gloves complying with an approved standard should be worn at all times when handling chemical products if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. : Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used when a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. : Choose body protection in relation to its type, to the concentration and amount of dangerous substances, and to the specific work-place. : Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Wash thoroughly after handling.
