T urtles

Turtles are fascinating creatures. They glide beautifully through the ocean. They fly through the water like birds that fly through the sky. They rise beautifully to get a breath of fresh air. A saltwater turtle has a big dark brown shell to protect its soft dark green body. A turtle is a good swimmer. In fact, a turtle is one of the best swimming animals in the ocean. Normally, turtles don’t go on dry land unless they are laying eggs or hatching out of one. Beautiful turtles are cold blooded animals which means they hatch out of eggs nor out of their mum’s tummy. A turtle’s tummy is not a dark green colour. It’s a creamy colour. When turtles hatch they are very small but once they grow, they can get very big. Turtles have two big dark coloured eyes and a mouth. Turtles aren’t fast walkers but are very fast swimmers. The first part of a turtle’s life cycle is when two turtles mate. Then the female turtle goes on dry land to lay eggs. She goes to the same place where she once hatched out of an egg. The female lays her eggs under the sand and then goes back to the ocean hoping that her babies will be ok. When the babies hatch, they try to make their way to the ocean. Unfortunately sometimes turtles make their way to the city where they might get run over or fall through the drain. A turtle lives in the ocean. The ocean has lots of animals such as sharks, different species of fish and other salt water creatures. Also in the ocean there are a lot of different types of plants. One of the most common plants in the sea is seaweed. On the bottom of the ocean there is sand, sea shells and coral. Coral is found in the coral reef. You can’t ever touch coral because you might kill it. It really depends on the turtle’s species. Some turtles are omnivores and eat a variety of different underwater plants and animals. Turtles normally eat different types of small crabs, different species of jellyfish and small saltwater creatures. Turtles don’t feed their babies. Their babies have to find their own food. All turtles find their own food. Unfortunately we humans make it bad for the turtles sometimes with oil spills. Oil spills affect the turtles because a jellyfish might get inside of it when the turtle eats the jellyfish and the turtle will get sick and might die. Also, humans put turtles in theme parks so people can look at them but turtles don’t enjoy it. Imagine if people looked at you all the time! Turtles are wonderful animals. They can go on land and in the ocean. Turtles are incredible. They have beautiful shells with royal diamond patterns. I think that everyone should love these beautiful animals.
