La Bataille d’ Austerlitz 1805© Marshal Enterprises

If you have a lull in the action while playing La Bataille d’Austerlitz 1805, reflect upon the other events of that great historical year… In the Year 1805… …Was also known as Year XIV of the French Revolutionary Calendar, and it would be the last year that calendar was used in France…The French were hoping to set up a branch of the French Revolution in London and spent much of the year planning to invade the England via a crossing of the English Channel. The French Admiral, Pierre-Charles-Jean-Baptiste-Silvestre de Villeneuve, found the weight of his name not conducive to out maneuvering the British Admiral, Horatio Nelson. Despite some initial successes in moving the French and Spanish fleets in in a strategically clever manner, Villeneuve, soon found his fleets outfoxed by Nelson at The Battle of Trafalger , and was defeated and captured by the English on October 21, 1805. Admiral Nelson was killed at the battle, and that in turn inspired a London improvement called Trafalger Square. Villenueve was paroled in December and returned in shame to Paris. He was found dead in April 1806 with six stab wounds in the left lung and one stab wound to the heart in what was ruled a suicide by French police…

Probably the most popular political cartoon of all time done by the British artist James Gillray in 1805 and entitled Plum Pudding in Danger Now that the French could not be distracted by invasions and other yachting events, they could go about getting the rest of Europe organized via the Battle of Austerlitz and the subsequent Peace of Pressburg. There were other events in Europe other than Trafalger, Ulm and Austerlitz. In the Netherlands, Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck became the last Dutchman to rule the Netherlands before the end of the Napoleonic Wars. He was named Grand Pensionary of the Batavian Republic by Napoleon on April 29 just a few months after Schimmelpenninck completed a new constitution for the Dutch.
