ber 7 th . Trail reroutes are happening and brushing of trails is continuing. At our September meeting we hon- ored Kevin Sedgwick who was pre- sented with the MSA photo contest winner of the year award for 2019 by MSA vice president Al Swett. Also at that meeting Jan Logan and Eileen Lafland were announced as co-win- ners for member of the year award 2019-20! Congratulations to all! Memberships are beginning to roll in steadily and we would like to thank new business members B&B Paving, Twin City Tire and Service and B&F Road Service/ Truck and Trailer Service. Trails- On top of regular mainte- nance of our 80 miles of trails to check, this year we have two major reroutes to take care of before snow flies. As of today, I’m happy to report that the municipal trail M1 reroute is com- plete! We have approximately 100- man hours in this new trail. Next up is another major reroute in Eddington. ditional in-class learning. ATV traffic was way up in the summer and we expect a similar increase in snowmo- bile activity in coming months. Many will be new riders and/or new to our trail system. Some will be surprised but hopefully prepared for the severe weather conditions riders may encoun- ter if this is their first exposure to the North Maine Woods. We will need to place heavy emphasis on educating the riding public on permitted trails and in-town access points respecting pri- vate land owner requirements. Keep- ing everyone safe is always a chal- lenge in areas around vehicle traffic, sidewalks, gas stations and restaurants. Luckily our local PD and Warden Ser- vice have expressed an eager willing- ness to work with us to the satisfaction of all involved. The club will continue to place emphasis on good directional trail signage this year. The “Greenville Fire Rescue Bog- gan Fundraiser” on “gofundme.com” is gathering funds to purchase a back- country rescue sled. Consider a dona- tion for this piece of equipment as an insurance policy should you need to be transported to medical care in the unfortunate event of a crash. While crashes are relatively rare, this rescue sled will save lives and minimize fur- ther transportation injury. We also endorse the view that every rider should belong to a club as your meager dues go a long way to support the grooming and snowmo- bile promotion activities of the local club. Clubs are a group of volunteers that groom trails, post signage, clear downed trees, rebuild bridges, trim overgrowth, receive the input from any dissatisfied member of the public and are the ambassadors of the sport negotiating with land owners. Your primary or associate membership allows us to communicate with you on important issues and adds to our leverage when negotiating on behalf of snowmobilers. Early reports are for a colder and snowier winter and for that we are grateful. Low snow coverage for some of last winter was hard on the equipment. We do not anticipate any change in our trail system including providing continuous access to the B-52 crash site that is on the bucket list of almost every rider. “Final Mis- sion, The North Woods” a book by Joseph Wax documents the historic and fateful day in 1963 when this crash occurred on Elephant Mtn. in Piscataquis County now part of our trail access. to see people we haven’t seen since March and talk about what the club needs to do to get ready for this sea- son. For the foreseeable future we will meet at the Clifton Town Hall so that we can socially distance and conduct our business. We still were lucky to have the homemade cookies, coffee and tea from Dola and Nancy. Memberships are coming back and we are selling Super Raffle tickets. Let the season begin! The big topic of discussion was what to do about a storage facility for the grooming equipment. We have a shelter in place at Nancy and Dola’s but it is in need of repair/ replace. Two options were presented to the members and after more information was gath- ered and another meeting was held on site the club has decided to purchase a barn type storage building to put in place in late spring/early summer where the shelter is now. Going for- ward the hope is to find some land and put up a more permanent structure but we need something sooner than that. Trail work is beginning with land- owners being contacted, signs being put up, and trails being checked and cleared. We need to have equipment serviced and some repairs to the drag which will be done soon. Then all we have to do is wait for the snow to come and off we go. At the present time it appears we will not have to re-route any trials, but that changes as we all know. We are not sure if CASC can hold its annual dinner/auctions fundraising event this year due to the virus. If that is the case income will be less than in the past years. Club members are being encouraged to buy/sell MSA Super Raffle tickets as this is an easy way to bring in a little bit of income. It doesn’t cost the club any money just time and effort to sell tickets and is over by mid-December. Let us know if you want to buy/sell some. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Holidays will sure be different this year, but try and find a way to spend time with your families if you can. Until December. From all of us at CASC stay safe and Healthy! ShirleyBogTrailBusters@gmail.com We have already had one day with an inch of snow! The season is just around the corner! We are busy get- ting our new groomer moved to Shir- ley, arranging trails, fixing bridges, processing membership and every- thing else this time of year brings. We have been getting our renewals on memberships every day. We even have picked up a few new members. Many of our renewing members have paid their membership, bought the MSA Super Raffle tickets, bought our club snowshoe raffle tickets and have donated generously to our new groomer. We are constantly over- whelmed with the generosity of our members. Top of our donation list is once again Moosehead Motorsports in Greenville Junction. Not only do they store our grooming sled for the season at no charge but also serviced it for free and also gave us a sizable donation. Thank-you, thank-you and thank-you to all our donors! We finally had our first meeting in October. With the COVID Pan- demic we worked with the town and are meeting with social distancing at our regular Thursday meetings but for Director’s only. We do not have enough room for too many mem- bers, so please if you have any busi- ness please email us and do read the monthly minutes. We are also having our election of officers via email. We have sent out a call for nominations. One week before our November meeting we will send out the ballot asking for you to cast your vote: one vote per single member, 2 per family or 2 for business members. Meantime get your sleds over hauled for the upcoming season and look for some interesting rides. See you on the trails!
