Ortelius & Plancius These comfortable ice-strengthened vessels are excellent for expedition cruising in Antarctica. Built in 1989, the 116-guest Ortelius has the highest ice-class notation (UL1 equivalent to 1A), and the 123-guest Plancius , built in 1976, was completely rebuilt in 2009. Both vessels have simple but comfortable cabins, ranging from quadruples and triple cabins with bunk beds to superior cabins with double beds. All are outside- facing with a minimum of two portholes or windows per cabin, and have private shower and toilet, hairdryers, flat-screen TV, and ample storage space. Public areas include lots of open deck space, a restaurant that seats everyone in a single seating, and a bar/lecture room. They carry a fleet of Zodiacs for shore excursions. Active Antarctica Peninsula, p. 9 Weddell Sea: Emperor Penguin s, p. 9

Ocean Nova While not as luxurious as many other Antarctic ships, the Ocean Nova offers a great deal of comfort. She was built in Denmark in 1992 to sail the ice-choked waters of Greenland, and her ice-strengthened hull is ideally suited for travel in polar regions. The ship offers basic but comfortable outside- facing cabins, all with private facilities. Single and twin cabins have one or two lower berths, while triple cabins have two lower berths and one upper. In addition to a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room, the Ocean Nova has a spacious dining room, bar, and library. Guests are welcome on the bridge around the clock and there is always something to see or search for from the spacious observation decks. There are seven Zodiacs on board, ideal for disembarking for shore excursions and wildlife watching. Antarctica Air Cruise, p. 8
