The 2,800 kilometre Outback Way offers an awe-inspiring journey through some of the most attractive and remote desert areas. Learn about ancient Aboriginal culture, life in the Outback, and the natural environment of Australia’s central desert. The route itself is mostly gravel and it’s advisable to travel in a high clearance 4WD vehicle, as conditions can include sand drifts and corrugations. The Outback Way is graded regularly and is usually acceptable for towing off-road caravans and trailers. Canning Stock Route Best time April-Sep | High Clearance 4WD
The Canning Stock Route (CSR) is the longest stock route in the world, stretching over 1,700km through the vast open spaces of the Gibson, Great Sandy and Tanami deserts between Wiluna in the south and Halls Creek in the north. The Canning Stock Route travels through extremely harsh arid terrain and sand dunes, and should only be undertaken during cooler months in a well organised convoy. Do not attempt this track unless you have extensive outback travel experience and a very reliable and capable vehicle specifically prepared for remote long distance desert travel.
