Goldfields National Parks and Nature Reserves Visitors to the Goldfields find themselves astounded by the diversity and beauty of the region’s landscape, flora and fauna. Discover this for yourself by visiting the impressive Goldfields national parks and nature reserves. Goldfields Woodlands National Park Straddling Great Eastern Hwy 60km west of Coolgardie, running another 40km beside road. Travelling time: 1 hour from Coolgardie. Facilities: Visitor and camping areas at Victoria Rock and Boondi Rock. Information shelter, picnic sites, tables, toilets, freshwater dam at Boondi, heritage trail, Holland Track. What to do: Walking, photography, nature observation, birdwatching, swimming, yabbying, picnics, camping, 4WD trips. Jaurdi Conservation Reserve Former sheep station now a conservation reserve. Where is it : 175km west of Kalgoorlie via Great Eastern Hwy and Ryan’s Find on Mt Walton Rd. Facilities: The homestead, just north of the railway, has basic accommodation, running water, a shower, toilet, pot belly stove, cooking facilities, tables, BBQ, rain and dam water tanks, shearers’ quarters and a shearing shed. Camping fees apply and bookings can be made through DPaW Kalgoorlie Office. What to do: Sightseeing, photography, nature study, camping, 4WD trips, yabbies in the dams.
Cave Hill’s Cave and Wave Formation An excellent camping spot and is one of several large granite rock conservation reserves. Where is it: 90km south of Coolgardie. Facilities: Information shelters, tables, BBQ, toilets, camping areas. What to do: Sightseeing, walking, photography, nature observation, yabbying, picnics, camping, 4WD trips along the old woodlines (if conditions are wet, remain on formed roads only). Goongarrie Conservation Reserve and National Park Located in transition zone between the Coolgardie Facilities: Homestead has accommodation and full facilities. All buildings have tables, wood BBQs, water supply, rainwater, showers, some furniture, and provisions for electricity (BYO generator). Camping fees apply and bookings can be made through DPaW Kalgoorlie. What to do: 4WD trips, history, bushwalking, birdwatching, cycling, camping and nature study. Rowles Lagoon Conservation Park Where is it : 73km north of Coolgardie along the Bonnie Vale and Carbine Roads or alternatively from Kalgoorlie via Ora Banda. Facilities: Information shelter, tables, toilets, camping sites, freshwater lake, boat-launching site, gazetted water ski area, heritage trail. What to do: Sightseeing, walking, photography, nature and bird observation, swimming, water-skiing, canoeing, picnics, camping. and Murchison biogeographical regions. Where is it: 90km north of Kalgoorlie.
