Lookouts Panoramic views of the town and farmlands can be seen from the Anzac Memorial in town or from the scenic lookout (2km west of town). Gorge Rock Located 20 kilometres from town, Gorge Rock is a natural rock pool which was once the local swimming hole, (before an Olympic pool was constructed in the townsite), offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding farmland and countryside around Corrigin. Enjoy the short walk through picturesque bushland to get to the rock pool. No swimming is allowed in the present day, however it is a scenic picnic location with tables and interpretative signage, surrounded by natural bushland making it an ideal rest stop. See the blacksmith’s shop, the old one room school, the shearing shed and a collection of district photographs and other memorabilia. A wall at the entrance commemorates early settlers. Open Sunday 2-5pm and Wednesday 1-4pm or by appointment. Tel: 0427 920 737. A short walk through the park takes you to the main street shopping precinct. Dog Cemetery Just 5 kilometres west of town, The Dog Cemetery was established in 1974 as a tribute to ‘Man’s Best Friend’. With over 200 loved ones buried here, the cemetery is unique to Corrigin. Take time to read some of the headstones, the cemetery is landmarked by a statue of a large dog. Anyone is welcome to bury their dog at the cemetery and many have travelled from different towns to lay pets in their final resting place. Wildflowers and Walk Trails A 4 kilometre Wildflower Drive starts opposite the Dog Cemetery. Over 200 species can be seen as it meanders through a wide range of soils, from sedgelands to mixed shrubs and various woodlands, some growing in profusion in broken rocks. Take a leisurely walk over the Corrigin Rock on the east edge of town and enjoy a picnic in the Adventure Playground. Power-walk on the Old Dam Track west of the railway line starting at the old water tower. Adventure Playground A great place to picnic with playground equipment for the children. Located next to Corrigin Rock, the Adventure Playground provides plenty of shade and tranquility. This park has a fort structure with disabled access, a BBQ and picnic setting, shade shelter and play equipment, with a ‘space net’ to climb on.
Corrigin was once known as the town of the windmills until the arrival of the water scheme in 1960. It is now famous for its tribute to ‘Man’s Best Friend’ at the unique dog cemetery and is the world record holder for Dogs in a Ute. This grain and grazing town is nestled in the heart of the Wheatbelt only 235km south- east of Perth on the Brookton Highway. Corrigin has a rich agricultural heritage and the district produces around 171,000 tonnes of wheat in an average year. It boasts a friendly atmosphere for both residents and visitors. The town is nestled at the base of Corrigin Rock and to experience Corrigin on foot the town offers a variety of dedicated tracks and trails. The town’s history is reflected in the windmill entry statement and is showcased at the Pioneer Museum and RSL Memorial Lookout. Corrigin offers all the necessary services and facilities including an adventure playground, swimming pool, indoor heated pool and Recreation and Events Centre.
Places of interest Main Street and Miss B’s Park
Visit the shops and cafés in Campbell Street just off the Highway. Miss B’s Park has picnic and BBQ facilities located in the main street. Pioneer Museum and Rotary Park Stop for a BBQ or picnic in the shady park and then wander over to the museum with its collection of tools and restored farm machinery, including tractors in working order.
