MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

Many institutions are looking toward purchasing this software for exam building and protection. vii. Ms. Kimble asked if any institutions are using plagiarism software. Members stated that some of their instructors are using free software. viii. Ms. Kimble asked members to offer ideas for professional development seminars related to online learning. Ms. Kimble emailed the application last week and encouraged DLCs to ask their instructors to complete and return applications. The electronic form at this time is still real time and is not locking down the audit roll. In order for this to be accomplished the audit rolls will have to be completely rewritten. Members agreed to go ahead and leave it live so that it can be used in some way. Ms. Kimble recommended printing the audit rolls as the instructor verifies the audit for each class. Andrea Scott asked about the possibility of earning CEUs. Ms. Kimble stated that the SBCJC does not issue CEUs, so an institution who is authorized to issue them will have to volunteer to issue them. Jenniffer Wamsley will ask at NEMCC to see if they are willing. Andrea Scott stated that many instructors have questions about pay, time involved, and expectations. Ms. Kimble stated that pay would be approximately $200 per week (module). The pay for the face to face training will be approximately $125 per 2 hour training session. If a facilitator cannot use a school vehicle, mileage will be reimbursed. Ms. Kimble reminded members to discuss with their institutions to explain the purpose behind the Certified Online Instructor course. Ms. Kimble will prepare an email that gives an overview to facilitators who are chosen. Phyllis Johnson would like to discuss the feasibility of being able to upload a flat file of enrollments into the enrollment tool. Other institutions would like to extract a flat file from MSVCC to load into their administrative systems. Mr. Burnett said that it is possible to do this, but that the association needs to be in agreement about what we want and how we plan to use this. Also, members will need to discuss with their information technology people at each institution to prepare their systems to do this. ii. Members discussed their concerns about the enrollment tool being slow. Mr. Burnett stated that network issues may be a part of the problem in addition to the fact that the database has become very large with many items that are not being used. Members agreed to go back to the old system of building local offerings in an effort to speed up the process. Laura Lofton asked if anything can be done to increase the speed. Mr. Burnett said that a network health check could be done. iii. Jennifer Leimer asked who uses self enrollment in the enrollment tool. Northeast, EMCC, Co-Lin, Holmes, MCC, and MS Delta use self enrollment. (Holmes and Northeast use Banner) iv. A registrars meeting will be held on June 29-30. Audra Kimble recommended that members who are interested in discussing the audit procedure and changing the enrollment tool to help with processing audits.
