MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

a. Archive Option on MSVCC Enrollment Tool – A quick check was accomplished with all DLC’s to see if the archive tool added to the enrollment tool incorporated all the necessary information. Everyone agreed that the tool worked well and contained all necessary information. i. Ms. Britt noted that some reports still did not contain semester date information at the top of the report when printed. She will identify these reports to Mr. Burnett as they are found. Jason Pugh announced that the MSVCC enrollment tool is ready to begin the Spring Build ii. Curtis Kynerd, Hinds, announced problems that the Hinds Distance Learning staff had experienced with the Spring Build. Other DLCs stated they had experienced the same problems. Ive Burnett was invited into the meeting to view the MSVCC enrollment tool from the Hinds perspective. These problems are now being addressed by Mr. Burnett. c. Standardized Withdrawal Form- This discussion was postponed until Jennifer Wamsley, NEMCC, is present. d. Textbooks i. During the September 17, 2003 meeting the idea was raised of forming a new textbook committee. ii. Robert Strawbridge, who served on the original textbook committee, volunteered to find the research reports submitted by the former textbook committee. Mr. Strawbridge feels that the work done by the committee will meet the needs of the current DLC Association. Mr. Vance, ECCC, chaired the original committee and should have copies of the completed research. iii. Margaret Britt, Co-Lin, reminded the committee of the option of contacting book publishers and obtaining electronic copies of the first few chapters of student textbooks. This would enable online instructors to make the text information available to students awaiting textbook delivery. e. Strategic Planning-Postponed until next meeting because of the learning management system demonstrations. b. Spring 2004 Build i. Mark Smith, MGCCC, suggested having Ive Burnett create a new tool in the MSVCC enrollment tool to enter and track audit roll information. The purpose of this tool is to replace the paper audit rolls currently used. This tool will likely work similar to the grade submission tool. All information is internally date and username stamped which can serve as the signature for submission. ii. Ellene McCrimon, ICC, reminded the committee that the Dean’s Association approved the use of initials and date of birth as official signatures on electronic documents. iii. Alicia Show, SWMCC, recommended using the audit page on the web page????. This would enable the instructors to electronically mark audit rolls rather than having to manually pass the forms to the registrar. Mark Smith, MGCCC, reminded the group that enabled Pop-up Blockers on student computers will prevent the students from viewing items in Blackboard that have been designated to “Launch in an External Window”. This includes tests and links to pictures in tests. b. Pop-up Blockers i. New Business a. Enrollment Tool Enhancements for Audit Rolls i.
