MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

XII.

Open Forum a. Update on student Name being posted in Blackboard. Jackie said that the original problem was brought up by her proctor. A student may come in and provide their correct ID and then log in as someone else to complete a test. It would be helpful if the student’s name appeared in Blackboard, so that they can compare the student ID to the name posted within Blackboard. Terry will have to discuss this ability with Blackboard to see if this is available or if a customization would need to be built. b. The proctored meeting is going well. They are discussing the idea of getting NetOp as a consortium. Tish has pulled the survey information that the proctors provided prior to today’s meeting and she will be emailing her faculty those results. One of the proctor’s main concerns are that the faculty members are not posting all of the information needed for proctored exams (passwords, dates, etc). Jennifer Leimer asked when the summer and fall test passwords will be removed from the ET, so that faculty can begin updating that information?. Another issue is that some passwords are disappearing even after the reset. This is occurring sporadically for several schools. Audra said that they had a few instructors who had been logging into the ET and then one day was unable to do so. When she contacted Ive, he said to let him know when this occurs. Most schools are still updating the instructor transcripts and credentials. If you cannot locate a transcript for certain instructors, please contact the DLC. Most will have them updated prior to the start of the fall semester. c. Symposium Live. Video streaming which has a building block for Blackboard with grading functionality. Symposium Live has been contacting each school to see if they had an interest in using this product. Rebecca said that they like the idea of using Symposium Live software because we are limited on the amount of videos right now. Currently students in rural areas have to wait for the download of videos, or the schools do not have a location and space for storing live streams. Symposium Live helps to solve these problems. d. Letter of Complaint - used when a student has a complaint on an instructor. Jennifer James emailed this to everyone last month. Hinds uses the form when a complaint arises. Students are required to complete the form before the complaint moves forward. e. SACS – Student Authentication. Holmes is completing their five year review for SACS. We need to ensure that people are who they say they are when taking online courses. Jennifer Leimer said that she read the follow-up regarding authentication. That stated that as long as we have a procedure in place for checking IDs during proctored exams, we are covered. Tish recommended that Symposium Live be added as a vendor to the fall 2010 bootcamp.
