MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

5. Mr. Burnett addressed the problem of students who have been removed from classes still appearing in student report.

6. An association member asked if members remove “No Show” students from MSVCC. Most responded, only during add/drop.

7. Ms. Cumberland requested a more efficient format for the Student Report in the MSVCC Enrollment Tool so that sorting can be accomplished more effectively. Mr. Burnett said that he would work on it.

8. Jackie Bailey-Hall asked for an explanation of the items listed in “Running Statistics” in the MSVCC Enrollment Tool.

9. Mr. Pugh reminded association members that if an error is found in the MSVCC Enrollment Tool or Blackboard, verify it first, then send an error report to Ms. Givens. Be sure to include the error code.

10. Mr. Pugh also reminded the association that DLCs, not instructors or students, should be the only ones to contact SBCJC when there are questions or problems.

11. Hubert Yates added that DLCs should not contact away instructors directly. Rather, they should contact the DLC at the other institution.

12. Jenniffer Wamsley stated that students who get locked out of the MSVCC Self Enrollment Tool, or do not select courses, do not appear in the non-verified student list and students cannot get back in to finish registration. DLCs have to search through the entire student list to see which ones have no courses listed. Mr. Burnett stated that he would change the enrollment process so that enrollment is not complete until courses are selected. 13. Association members discussed the different policies for offering local/away courses. It was noted that some colleges limit enrollment to local courses that have remaining seats before offering away classes. Mr. Smith and Mr. Pugh stated that it would be a good management practice to make local classes available first and add away classes as needed or upon request of the student. Mr. Smith and Mr. Pugh also reminded the group that the MSVCC policy states that 100% of all courses offered through the consortium that are listed in an institution’s college catalog must be made available to students except in instances where the course has been rejected following an evaluation.

14. Mr. Yates reminded association members that publishers typically change ISBN numbers on July 1 and encouraged members to verify textbook information.
