A meeting of the Distance Learning Coordinator’s Association was held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in the Conference Room at the State Board for Junior and Community Colleges building in Jackson, MS.

CALL TO ORDER. Ellene McCrimon called the meeting to order at 10:00.

II. The minutes from the association meetings on Monday, July 7 and August 4, 2004 were approved as presented. III. MELO Presentation A. Ms. Kathleen Hutchison presented MELO which provides a collection of reliable and credible library resources for distance education students. Mark Smith commented that in his opinion, MELO is one of the best library systems in the US. Ms. Hutchison stated that while it is small, quality is of top priority. Ms. Hutchison would like to visit each college to present MELO to faculty. B. Ms. Hutchison demonstrated teaching tools that are available through MELO. 1. Course Websites & Online Teaching Tools a. Merlot-Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching-collection of peer reviewed resources for teaching in a variety of disciplines. http://www.merlot.org b. World Lecture Hall-collection of instructors’ course materials including syllabi, lecture notes etc. http://www.utexas.edu/world/lecture c. MIT OpenCourseWare – a collection of complete courses offered by MIT that are made available online free of charge to anyone. 2. Digitized Collections – collection of documents, pictures, videos
