Advanced bending concept for use with fittings and assembled systems

Rosenberger AG, Germany, has launched the Twister automatic CNC bending machine with high flexibility. It is designed specifically for use with assembled com- binations of rigid tubes with flexible hoses, pre-assembled with valves and fittings. The Twister is based on a robot and one or more standard RB Rosenberger bending heads. Functions of the robot include handling, feeding and rotating the tube during bending on the bending head. It can be also used to feed the tube to a servo-electric driven RU Rosenberger end-forming machine. The Twister is programmed, like the standard

machine, from a single control panel, with direct input of coordinates. With the Twister it is possible to bend – in a single cycle – assembled combinations of rigid tubes with flexible hoses. In comparison with the traditional process, which involves the bending of rigid tubes before assembly with flexible hoses, the costs are lowered. This is due to the reduction of machines, operations, space and intermediate stocking, replaced by a system that can be quickly programmed and tooled for various pipes.

The Twister can bend tubes from both the extremities towards the centre. This is an advantage when long pipes have to be bent with large bending angles or rotations in the last section, because the portion of tube subject to oscillations will be limited. In addition, the robot can handle tubes that are pre-assembled with valves and fittings. It is not uncommon during the bending process for a bend not to be carried out due to a collision problem, requiring it to be executed in a later manual operation. The Twister can integrate this operation in the bending cycle, locking the tube in front of the bending head, positioned in relation to the bend to be made. The ability to lock the tube in front of the bending head also enables extremely short last sections to be created. The total freedom of movement of the robot ensures flexibility. The fast and simple programming software is the same as that featured on the standard electrically driven Rosenberger RB20 and RB30 CNC bending machines. The Twister can be equipped with a maximum of five bending heads of different sizes and bending directions. Rosenberger is represented in Italy by Euracciai. The company manufactures servo-electric driven machines for tube processing, including bending machines, end-forming machines, and cutting machines.
