Bravery Awards Darren Edwards featured in the last issue of Police World, after being nominated for a bravery award. Together with his colleagues and their partners, they travelled to London first class and stayed in the Rubens Hotel looking over the rear gate to Buckingham Palace. They were taken out to an Argentinian steak restaurant in Hackney in the evening where they met officers from all over the North West. On Thursday they visited Horse Guards Parade to access the garden of 10 Downing Street, where they had a drinks reception and spoke with the very new PM; Theresa May on her first day in office. They were then shown through 10 Downing Street into number 11 and exited on to Downing Street where they were allowed a photo opportunity. The Awards Ceremony at the Dorchester was a fantastic evening and some of the stories were unbelievable. They were all presented with a stunning award (which resembled a small iceberg!) a bottle of champagne and a Police Bravery Awards pin badge.

IPA NATIONAL GOLF COMPETITION I am delighted to announce that SLALEY HALL, Hexham, Northumbria will be the venue for the IPA National Golf Competition in 2017. The dates are WEDNESDAY, 31 MAY and THURSDAY, 1 JUNE. There are 2 courses at the Hotel, the HUNTING and PRIESTMAN, which hosts European Tour Events and we will play them both over the 2 days. Each Region is requested to enter a team of 4 players. Some Regions hold qualifying competitions and this is to be encouraged but not a requirement. Only 1 Team per Region can be entered in the Team Competition. But there is no restriction on the number of players from each Region competing for the Individual prizes. I am still in negotiations with the Hotel regarding costs and I will post them on Web News in the not too distant future, so keep checking www.ipa-uk.org This year there were 32 participants in Belfast so hopefully we will exceed that next year. It is a very sociable occasion and a great opportunity to meet old and make new friends. Team Award Alex Bidolak (2nd left) received a Team Award, during the Citizens in Policing Recognition Awards 2016. His award was presented by the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Ian Hopkins.
