6.3.1 Develop a model to describe how the cycling of water through Earth’s systems is driven by energy from the sun, gravitational forces, and density . CONCEPTS SKILLS ● Cycling of Water through Earth’s systems ● Develop a model ● Describe LEARNING PROGRESSIONS ● Energy transfer from the sun warms water on Earth ● Water vapor in the atmosphere forms clouds, which can cool and condense to produce precipitation that falls to Earth ● Gravity causes water on land to move downhill and much of it eventually fows into large reservoirs like oceans, lakes, etc. ● Some liquid and solid water remains on land in the form of bodies of water and ice sheets. ● Identify the relevant components of the water cycle (liquid, gas, solid, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, water reservoirs)

● Fog forms over the Jordan River each morning and clears soon after the sun rises. ● After a rainstorm, water on pavement in sunny areas evaporates faster than water in shady areas. ● Throughout Utah’s history, wells have been a source for water from underground sources. ● Vernal, Utah has periods of drought, while Mobile, Alabama rarely experiences drought.
