Joint venture company to specialise in large fans

ACTOM has joined international fans company TLT-Turbo GmbH of Germany in forming a joint venture (JV) company to cater to both the Sub-Saharan and local market for all types of large fans. The market comprises mainly the industrial, mining, process, metallurgical, cement and power generation indus- tries. TLT-Turbo GmbH is wholly owned by Power Construction Corporation of China, a Chinese state-owned industrial con- glomerate which is one of the world’s 500 largest companies. Comments Craig Johnston, MD of TLT ACTOM (which formerly traded as ACTOM Mechanical Equipment): “The new part- nership arrangement places us in a much stronger positon than before in two major respects. Firstly, in partnering TLT-Turbo in a 50-50 JV company we have a closer and firmer association with our international partner than applied previously. “Secondly, we are entering the local power generation market with much stronger credentials than before. There is an established installed base of TLT-Turbo large axial flow fans at Eskom’s Majuba power station and their fan systems are being installed and commissioned at both of Eskom’s new power stations, Medupi and Kusile.” Craig Johnston, TLT ACTOM, tel (+27 11) 878-3029 “We have a substantial stockholding of spare parts, in addition to the capabil- ity of being able to offer on- and off-site service,” van Deventer says. “The Service Centre is also expected to generate local employment and promote community development in the area.” Van Deventer explains that the spare parts stockholding at the new Service Centre in Kathu is based on the operational profiles of its main mining clients in the area. “This ensures a lean inventory level geared to each client’s specific needs. From an OEM perspective, we will ensure that the correct parts are installed according to specification, and that the equipment operates within its design limits.” MBE Minerals SA is a leading sup- plier of iron ore and coal beneficiation technology, offering basic and detailed engineering, components for complete plants and systems. partners took effect from May 1, 2015. ACTOM and TLT-Turbo negotiated the new international partnership after ACTOM’s technology agreement with international ventilation fan producer Solyvent Fläkt Woods AG was dissolved as a result of the acquisition of that com- pany’s international fan division by an opposition fan manufacturer. TLT ACTOM retains the existing tech- nology agreements with Fläkt Woods for

categories of fans used in industry and for heat- ing, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) systems used mainly in large commercial applications. The large fan systems covered by TLT ACTOM’s new technology partner- ship incorporate axial flow and centrifugal fan units with power ratings of up to 15 MW.

mining-related applications as the project transitioned from phase to phase. The first stage, which was delivered at the end of 2014, included 8,4 MW to run several electric shovels for mineral extrac- tion. In the second stage, Aggreko delivered an additional 11,6 MW of power for overall site operations. In addition to the first two phases of the project, Aggreko is responsible for commis- sioning, storing and filtering the fuel supply, allowing for 24-hour continuous opera- tions of the mine. Following the project’s completion, Aggreko’s team will oversee all base of equipment at several mines in the area, notes Heinz Mittermaier, Engineering Manager. “It therefore makes sense to sup- port our customers from a local facility. The new Service Centre allows us to provide technical assistance and proactive main- tenance, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the equipment we supply through its complete lifecycle.”

MBE Minerals SA has officially launched its new Service Centre in the Kathu Industrial Area of the Northern Cape. Under the management of Rudi van Deventer, the operation comprises a 600 m 2 facility that incorporates offices, a warehouse and a dedicated workshop for assembly, repair and inspection of various components. Aggreko supplies power to Peruvian mining project Aggreko, which claims to be the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, was commissioned by MMG Limited to provide 20 MW of power to the Las Bambas mine located more than 4 000 m above sea level in the Peruvian region of Apurimac.

For this particular project, Aggreko was required to provide power solutions at different phases within challenging time- frames helping the customer avoid any consequential penalties. Aggreko’s modu- lar and flexible solutions, where power can be quickly and seamlessly increased or decreased according to site needs, allowed the customer to concentrate on other
