Fall 2026
The testing was going well, even with the massive brain wave power The Rocket possessed and emitted we had data that showed button bucks could be blocked by one sheet, spike bucks could be blocked with two sheets, forkies could be blocked by four sheets and six pointers by six sheets. We thought it was a linear relationship, one sheet of tin foil for each tine. Then The Rocket was busted by a nontypical 250 inch monster. This presented a conundrum; how to control for nontypical bucks? We ended up with four Bonker’s Blocker kits on The Rocket’s head. Every time we added sheets the buck would get a little closer before moving off in another direction. We really needed this data if our long term goals of expanding the brand into elk and moose hunting was to come to fruition. The day of the 48 sheet Bonker’s Blocker test was an unusual day for late October, it was hot and humid and the potential for rain showers were in the forecast. I applied the Bonker’s Blocker to The Rocket’s head and he started his walk to the stand. His path took him across a clearing. He never heard or saw what hit him, but evidence showed that he was struck by lightning. Right on the top of his head. A lesser man would not have survived a hit like that. His lawyers claimed it was the Bonker’s Blocker that made him a giant lightning rod and it was my lawyers claim that the Bonker’s Blocker actually saved him by absorbing the brunt of the charge therefore saving his life. The settlement we reached included a lifetime supply of aluminum polish for the Bonker’s Blocker that was permanently fused to his skull and he would abide by the nondisclosure agreement he signed to become a Bonker’s Blocker Pro Staffer. The part of the settlement that I didn’t like was I had to agree to stop my research into deer antenna and their ability to detect human brain waves. And just like that, my dream of getting rich from deer hunting was dashed upon the rocks of reality. OK, to get back to the story at hand, it was My Personal Guide, My Personal Guide’s Assistant,
The Rocket and me in Canada, at the same lake and on the same week as last year. The division of duties were My Personal Guide did most of the meal planning, all of the fish filleting, well, except for the one northern I hacked up, The Assistant did most of the cooking, The Rocket helped out where ever he could and I did what I do best, nothing. There were dishes that I did once and I had to make a box of mac and cheese on the last night. They had lots of stuff they wanted to add to the mac and cheese but I don’t think they realized I needed remedial help just to boil the water. Chef Dave always brought a big container of pico de gallo and a giant bag of tortilla chips to go along with it. We would eat pico all week. Without even knowing about the pico The Rocket brought the makings for something called sirveechee, seems it’s made with fresh fish, assorted herbs and vegetables soaked in lime juice. Hence the northern I hacked up. The Rocket’s recipe called for way more fish than one 25 inch hacked up northern produced. He guesstimated the correct proportions for the recipe, mixed it all up, put it in the fridge overnight and we tried it the next day. I’d give it three thumbs up if I had three thumbs. But Rocket, you lose half a thumb for not possessing the where with all to bring the Tostito Scoops. As I was to learn latter the correct spelling is “ceviche”. Regardless of the spelling or pronunciation it was some good stuff. The Rocket had plenty of lime juice and other makings for another batch so we kept another northern and our limit of walleyes, which on this lake were two per angler. Normally we only keep six fish for supper but on that day we kept our full limit of eight. My Personal Guide tried his hand at filleting the northern, he didn’t hack it up as badly as I did but we both believe no matter how many tube of you videos we watch on how to deal with the Y bones in a northern there is no replacement for practice. Between the northern and two walleyes the next batch had plenty of fish and was better than the
