171221 Ruritan Annual Report

Approved May 18, 2018 been an Adult regular member first and the Affiliation would be with Ruritan National only, not with the local club. The Chair called upon President-Elect Guy to announce the next three presentations while he presented the awards on the stage. President Danny was joined by Mike Morrison, Chair of the Youth Committee for the presentation of Rudy Youth and Ruri-Teen of the Year. 2017 Rudy Youth of the Year is: Madison Kelley of the Turner Ashby Ruriteen Club. Madison attended every club meeting, zone meeting and has attended both district and a national convention. She spent 800 hours on club projects and completed twelve (12) projects. She has served as a committee chair and as president of her Ruri-Teen club as well as being a very active member in her regular club. She plays travel softball as well as basketball for her school. She is a member of the Mount Crawford and Turner Ashby Ruri-Teen clubs in the Rockingham District. 2017 Ruri-Teen of the Year is: Sarah Birkholz of the South Stokes Ruri-Teen. Sarah has been a member of Ruritan since 2009 and is a member of two clubs. She attended 25 club meetings and visited three other clubs throughout the year. She served as club president, as committee chair over two committees, completed ten projects and has spent 160 hours on club projects. She plays volleyball and softball for her high school. She participates in 4-H, FFA and the Beta Club. She has volunteered at a health and rehab center, for special Olympics, at the local community hospital, for Relay for Life and helps third graders learn about agriculture. She is a member of the South Stokes Ruri-Teen Club in the Piedmont District! 2017 Ruritan of the Year is: Katharine B. Allen of the Rewastico Creek Ruritan Club in the Delmarva NJ District. Katharine has been a member of Ruritan since 1995. She not only attended all club meetings last year but attended two zone meetings as well as both District and National conventions and made 21 club visits. She completed 62 projects and spent 800 hours on club projects. She has served as District Secretary and Zone Governor for many years. She also served as Club President and Vice president. She has been Club Secretary for over twenty years. She is active in her local church, assisted with local bake sales and served as co-chair for the carnival booth. She has worked with local sick individuals and others in their local community. She is active in her local Garden club and the Farm and Home show. The Chair called upon National Secretary, James Mills for announcements. The Chair called upon Robert “Bobby” Wren, 1978 National President, to assist him with the presentation of the Military flags The Chair asked everyone to wait for just a few minutes while our speaker makes his way to the ballroom.

Bobby Wren introduced, Major General R. Steve Siegfried, our Veterans Speaker. The Chair called upon National Secretary, James Mills for announcements. The Chair declared the meeting in recess until 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
