RS ...................... ........... Honorable Mention West Coast Conference first round action of the 2002 Division I Women's Volleyball e Championships. USC was the number one overall seed and among sixteen schools hosting first and second round action. Ind ividual game scores were (30-27, 30-15, 30- 24). San Diego (25-8) and USC went back and forth as the night began. Strong offensive starts from San Diego sophomore Kristen Hurst and Noel Frohman put the Toreros in a position to challenge The Women of Troy. Game one was even at 20 and USO never trailed by more than three throughout the opening frame. USC used a late rally to eventually prevail in game one 30-27. USC (26-1) raced ou t to an 8-1 lead in game two and cruised to a 30-15 decision to stake a 2-0 lead at the intermission. The Women of Troy combined to block 17 San Diego attacks through the first two games and 21 on the night. USC sophomore Emily Adams blocked a match-high seven and teammate Katie Olsovsky added five. Using consecutive kills from Frohman and senior Debra Robertson, San Diego tied game three 19-19. USC would again have an answer and turned away the Toreros 30- 24 to claim the first round victory. Playing in her final match as a Torero, Frohman finished the night with 13 kills and 12 digs, both team highs. Sophomore Devon Forster killed 12 and totaled 11 digs. Fresh– man setter Lindsey Sherburne had 32 assists Friday and finished the 2002 season 17 assists shy of setting an all-time single season school record.
