The "Friar's 400 Club" is a group within the Univer- sity of San Diego Boosters Club dedicated to assisting the University during its developmental stage, by pro- viding athletic scholarships for worthy students. The reason that the "Friar's Club" is known as the "400" is because the cost of each student who qualifies and is accepted by the University for scholarship is approximately $800 per year. The University is under- writing half of the cost, and you, by subscribing to membership in the "Friar's 400 Club," the other half. The rewards to the donor can be measured in the satisfaction that comes from helping a virile, athletic young man to obtain a college education; and through the benefits of this higher learning to become a highly useful American citizen, with the knowledge and skills so vitally important to success in today's complex way of life. In providing this scholarship, the donor will naturally accrue a whole-hearted interest in the welfare and ulti- mate success of the young man who wears the "parental mantle" of his scholarship, together with a personal stake in the competitive athletic program of the Univer- sity of San Diego.

While the University of San Diego is of Catholic sponsorship, a young man of any religious denomination may avail himself of the University's scholarship pro- gram, provided his grades from previous schooling are satisfactory, and if, there is reason to believe he can benefit from a university education. The University, now but six years old, is destined within the next five years to become one of the great Universities of Western United States. Its male enroll- ment is expected to reach 3,500 at maturity, and it has in addition, facilities already built for 1,000 women in the Women's College. Hence, there is no question that any "Friar's Club" donations will be building better men, and a finer Uni- versity, and these will be in total a major addition to the educational prowess and prestige of our San Diego.
