Student Fundraising Havergal’s approach to community engagement and fundraising aligns with our mission: we approach engagement by considering people (rather than causes or organizations), perspective (requires research and outreach) and partnership (rather than giving or helping). Fundraising in support of community partners is supported because they are our partners. We are connected to them in multiple ways and in those deep connections there is a mutual accountability that enables our community to learn in partnership. To support this approach we have made the following guidelines: 1. Students may fundraise at Havergal College primarily in support of Havergal’s community partnerships, except: a. in cases of disaster relief; or b. if a proposal is approved in accordance with the criteria in point 3 (below). 2. Proposals for fundraising in support of community partners must be brought to the Director, Forum for Change, who will then bring it to the Student Initiative Team (see above); 3. If students or faculty / staff want to launch a campaign to fundraise for a cause or organization that is not a community partner, a proposal must be brought to the Director, Forum for Change for referral to the Student Initiative Team. Upper School Formal Student Leadership (Grades 7-12) Below is a list of Formal Student Leadership opportunities. Each role has a different purpose and sphere of influence. It is through these roles that student voice is surfaced and heard by the school. In their own way, each role contributes to serving the school and community through responsible action, active listening, collaboration and cooperation with Havergal faculty and administration. School Prefects These Grade 12 leaders are elected by the students and faculty in the Upper School to serve the school through their assigned portfolios: Arts, Sports, Forum for Change, Student Council, Social, Prayers / Assembly, Admissions, House and Spirit, Junior School, Middle School, Health and Wellness, Sustainability and Boarding. Prefects set the tone for the year with an annual theme, cheer and other initiatives, as well as lead a variety of councils and projects related to their portfolios throughout the year, including: Spirit Week, Earth Week, Arts Week, The Salon Art initiative and more.
