Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk (Grades 9 to 12) When making use of the Fitness Room and the equipment available within the Fitness Room, a student will be exposed to situations and environmental conditions where the stresses and hazards will be greater or different from those she encounters in the usual course. The following safeguards are in place: ● the entrance to the Fitness Room is swipe card controlled; ● the Fitness Room is monitored by a security camera at all times; ● the equipment in the Fitness Room is maintained in good working order and is appropriate for the age and development of students in Grades 9 to 12; ● parents, at any time, may tour the Fitness Room; ● parents may contact any member of the Health and Physical Education Department to learn about the equipment available and the risks associated with the use of the equipment; and ● students are not permitted to admit or make use of personal trainers in the Havergal College Fitness Room.

Specific hazards associated with the use of the Fitness Room may include: ● athletic injuries; and ● slips and falls. Possible consequences as a result of these hazards are: ● head and / or spinal cord injuries; ● emotional trauma; ● lacerations, fractures and bruises; ● general musculoskeletal injuries (strains, sprains and tears); ● physical trauma; and ● death. Additional facilities are accessed off site including: ● track facilities at neighbouring Lawrence Park Secondary School; ● RINX arena; ● Hanlan Rowing Club on Lake Ontario; ● ski and snowboard facilities in the Collingwood area; ● Leaside Curling Club; and ● Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.
