Glossary

Boarding School

The Boarding School is a residence for approximately 50 Havergal students (Grades 9 to 12) representing countries all over the globe. Fully integrated in the life of the school and with Day students, Boarding students participate in life-skills and recreational programming in addition to the curricular and co-curricular programs offered at Havergal.

Boarding Prefect

The Boarding Prefect is a Grade 12 student elected by her Boarding School peers to assume a leadership role in Havergal’s Board School community.

Boarding School Office (BSO)

The BSO is the administrative centre of the Boarding School, where Boarders sign in and out after school hours. All visitors to the Boarding School must check in with the BSO upon arrival.

Block

The timetable of each Upper School student is divided into eight blocks of instructional time. In Grades 7 and 8, some blocks are shared by two different elective courses. Each block in Grades 9 to 12 represents a different subject. A block is usually 75 minutes in length.

Brenda Robson Hall (BRH)

Named in 2005 in honour of Brenda Robson, who retired after 42 years of teaching at Havergal, Brenda Robson Hall is the assembly hall located off the Rotunda in the Upper School. It has been used as a gymnasium, chapel and gathering space for the community from the time the present building was opened in 1926.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Bring Your Own Device is an approach to technology in which all students have access to and use their own personally-selected and purchased computing devices rather than using school owned devices.
