Missing Student Protocol

If the Lead Supervisor is unable to account for a student’s physical presence on any school-sanctioned excursion the student is considered to be missing and the following steps are taken: 1. The Lead Supervisor consults with other excursion leaders and students to see if they have additional information that accounts for the student’s absence, which is then corroborated by the Lead Supervisor. 2. The Lead Supervisor designates one excursion supervisor to sweep and search the venue while another stays with the group. If the excursion takes place at a venue with a security department (for example, the AGO), an excursion supervisor would apprise them of the situation so their venue-specific protocol could be activated. 3. If the student is still unaccounted for, the custodial parent / guardian will be called and apprised of the situation. 4. If the parent / guardian is unable to account for the student’s whereabouts, the Lead Supervisor will call 911. 5. The Lead Supervisor alerts Havergal Security and Havergal emergency protocols are activated. 6. Communication will be ongoing with Administration, Security, the Lead supervisor and parents.
