Family Handbook 2019-20

Boarding School Security The Boarding School is the residence for approximately 50 Havergal students (Grades 9 to 12) representing countries from all over the globe. It is located in the top two floors of the Upper School. Students come together in Boarding School families under the leadership of Havergal’s Boarding staff to create a diverse community of students who celebrate their similarities and differences throughout the year in special ways, including cultural dinners and excursions. Fully integrated in the life of the school and with Day students, Boarding students participate in life-skills and recreational programming in addition to the curricular and co-curricular programs offered at Havergal. The Boarding School is also the home to many Exchange students who visit for several weeks each term from our partner schools, located in eight countries worldwide. Day students are welcome to visit the Boarding School after school, or on weekends, with expressed written permission of a parent and a Boarding School staff member. Weekday visiting hours: Grades 9 to 12 3:35 pm – 5 pm 8 pm – 9:30 pm Security Swipe Card (Grades 7-12) All Upper School students are issued a multipurpose security swipe card with photo ID. Swipe cards issued in previous years are still valid for the current year. All students are responsible for their cards and must have their cards available at all times. Swipe Card Use Students are to use their swipe card to: ● gain access to the school at their secure grade-designated entrance door; ● borrow books and other materials from the Reta Weston Library Resource Centre; and ● make purchases in the Hawkins Dining Room and the Green & Gold Shop. Purchases in both the Hawkins Dining Room and the Green & Gold Shop will be accumulated and charged to your daughter’s account on a monthly basis. A daily limit of $20 has been established for food & beverage purchases in the Hawkins Dining Room. Parents may direct requests for adjustments to this limit—in writing—to the Food Service Director, with the student number included. This limit does not apply to purchases made in the Green & Gold Shop. Without exception, ALL visitors to the Boarding School (including Day students) must check in at the Boarding School Office (BSO) upon arrival. Visitors must also check out, not only with the BSO, but also with Security (if the visitor leaves the Boarding School premises after 6 pm).
