Family Handbook 2019-20

Driving Precautions While on the school premises, always drive cautiously, keeping in mind that young children can be unpredictable and may sometimes dart in between cars and greenery. As a pedestrian in the Junior School parking lot, keep control of young children, walk on the sidewalk, hold hands and guide her safely to avoid traffic. Student Drivers and Student Passengers Students are not permitted to drive fellow students to and from school and school-sanctioned events without the expressed written consent of the students’ parents. Havergal does not track, or keep records of, students who have obtained a driver’s licence. Nor does the school keep records of those parents who allow their daughter to travel as a passenger in a car with another Havergal student driver. Transportation To, and From, School-Sanctioned Events While Havergal usually provides transportation for students to, and from, school-sanctioned events, it is sometimes the case that Upper School students are asked to make their own way to and/or from excursion destinations. Here it is important to note that Havergal assumes no responsibility and/or oversight for how students get to and from these kinds of school-sanctioned events. An example is our annual Founders’ Day Service, whereby Upper School Day school students make their own way to St. Paul’s Church on Bloor Street, but are bussed back to Havergal after the service. The school’s expectation is that students will take a school-ordered bus back to Havergal. Students choosing to drive themselves to the event should not drive passengers.

The transportation needs of our boarding school students for school-sanctioned events are provided by Havergal College.

Student Parking Students are not permitted to park in any of the school parking lots unless special circumstances warrant otherwise. These students must seek approval by the VP School Life & Student Wellness in advance. Non-compliance with this expectation may result in disciplinary action.
