IPA House in Dublin - A real benefit When my friend suggested a weekend trip to the capital of Ireland, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use one of the many benefits of the IPA and stay at the IPA house in Dublin. I've wanted to stay at an IPA house for some time now in an attempt to get away from the normal budget hotel - I wasn't disappointed. The house was very well kept and packed full of police memorabilia from various forces across the world. Our room was nice and spacious with lovely comfy beds and en-suite bathroom. There was also a nice big back garden which I imagine would be great in the summer! Much better than a boring hotel and cheaper too! During the trip we visited Trinity College and squeezed in a tour of the Guinness Store House, which I highly recommend. At the end of the tour you get a pint of fresh Guinness to drink in the Gravity Bar which has great panoramic views of the city. It’s true what they say, the Guinness in Ireland tastes a lot better! We also had a traditional meal of bacon, cabbage and potatoes (which was very tasty) and took part in a city pub crawl where we met people from America, South Africa, France, Spain, Finland and Japan. It was a lot of fun and definitely worth the headache the following morning. The atmosphere throughout the entire trip was fantastic; everyone was really friendly and very talkative. The city of Dublin and the house were great; I will definitely be using IPA houses again for future trips, hopefully next time somewhere with a warmer climate! Chris Cowell , Hertfordshire branch

evenings is the 'IPA /Police Night' to see the ceremony. Any member of the public can see the actual ceremony but that is all. On the 'IPA night' the visit starts with a guided tour and history of the Tower by one of the 'off duty' Beefeaters which is informative and very amusing.” After the tour, Ricardo wrote to thank Steve, Eddie Botham and 10 Region members. Eddie is one of five volunteers who assist in running the IPA evenings. “We’ve had a perfect time in London especially the ceremony of ‘The Keys’. Our tour was on St. George’s Day and together with loads of important people we shared the Tower. Thank you again for a wonderful trip made possible by the IPA and their members. When we are back in London, we would like to be your guests again.” Editor’s note: If you are interested in the IPA Police Nights contact Eddie Botham at: e.botham@ntlworld.com
