Norfolk & Suffolk Branch Take to the Rails Eighteen members of the Norfolk branch met on a bank holiday Sunday at Dereham, Norfolk, for a day on the Mid Norfolk Railway. The Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR) is East Anglia’s longest heritage railway and links the historic market towns of Dereham and Wymondham. The day was unusual for a bank holiday as we had clear blue skies and wall to wall sunshine! The trip is 11 miles each way and took us through some of the county’s most picturesque countryside - much of which is not visible from the roads. On arrival in Wymondham the group split up to visit the abbey or stroll through the historic market town with its many medieval buildings. We all met up again for lunch at the Green Dragon pub which is a 15th century building standing next to the abbey gate house. It was time to wend our way back to the railway for the return trip to Dereham. We had a great day out and met some members who joined on a trip for the first time. Our Survey Says! In a survey of IPA members enrolled between 1 January – 30 September 2012, we received the following feedback: Q: How does the IPA, as an organisation, compare to other membership organisations of which you have experience? A: About the same, very friendly. A: So far I have found the members to be very friendly and there seems to be a more comradeship feel in the IPA than other organisations I have belonged to in the past. A: Similar – that is a magazine every few months, discounts for members. However, since joining the IPA I have been encouraged to become more involved with my branch. I have been happy to do so and have organised a foreign trip and recruited three new members myself. I know many of the other members and this certainly helps. A: I'm very happy with the IPA, I have made friends with members in Germany and you feel like you’re part of a big family. I just can't fault it. A: Excellent. A: Having been a long term member years ago and only just re-joined I found it very enjoyable. A: It’s very good. Regular updates and emails. A: Far superior forms of communication. Greater flexibility and a less formal approach to matters. Friendly and

accommodating. It compares very well so far. A: Superior to others I have belonged to. A: Good. A: Reasonable.

The survey also provided the Section with ideas for improvement and all points are being considered and action taken. We’ll report back on progress in the next edition of Police World. Those completing the survey were invited to enter their names into a prize draw. The winner of the draw was Sarah Smith of Hertfordshire Branch. Sarah won a ‘goody bag’ of IPA items.
