IPA News

York Celebrates On 28 April, York Branch, held a celebratory lunch at The Lady Anne Middletons Hotel in York. It was attended by members of the branch and members from London, Oldham, Bolton, Blackpool, Durham, Scarborough and Humberside - along with partners and family members. Vice President Ronnie Dukes also joined us. York branch has two members who have both completed over 50 years of IPA membership: Colin Shingles and Judith Carlton. Colin was presented with a Presidential Award by Ronnie Dukes on behalf of President, Tom Crozier, as Colin was not able to attend the National Council Meeting. The award was in recognition of Colin’s commitment and principles of friendship within the IPA that he has shown during his membership. Flowers were also given to Colin’s wife Audrey. Judith Carlton was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Keith Meadley the Chair of York branch. Alan Brown , Secretary York branch Do you know if Carolyn is right or are there other women who have been in their roles longer? If you know please contact Carolyn directly at: sec@bawp.org Who is the Longest Serving Female Police Officer in the UK? Carolyn Williamson, IPA member and Secretary of British Association for Women in Policing (BAWP) has contacted the Section UK Administration Centre (BSAC) to ask if anyone knows who is the longest serving female police officer in the UK. Carolyn said, “At the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, there is a female Inspector who has been in service for 44 years. We believe she may be the longest serving female police officer in the country. We also have a female Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) who we believe may be the longest serving female AFO in the country with 30+ years in the role.”

There has been good progress on the project over the last few months: the car has been overhauled and painted, a website and facebook page has been set up, merchandise is now available for sale and it's possible to donate on-line. ‘Stan the Panda’ has also made its first journey - as it made an appearance at the National Council Meeting. The organisers of the ‘IPA Route 50 Challenge’ have also launched a website: www.iparoute50.org The fundraising trip is to raise money for Section UK's chosen charity - the National Police Memorial Day.
