Gently tap the giant illuminated screen in the Barber Park Event Center rotunda, and you will discover some amazing ladies. Greensboro educators, researchers, activists, advocates, journalists, nonprofit leaders, a musician, and even a pilot. Ten were “firsts” in their field or office. All have a story to share at the Ruth Wicker Tribute to Women, the first stand-alone exhibit in North Carolina and one of only a handful of similar exhibits in the country that exclusively honor the contributions and achievements of women. “We’re delighted to honor women who influenced, transformed, and shaped the rich history of our city,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nasha McCray. The tribute is free to tour, and is open six days a week. School and community groups are welcome. Parks and Recreation premiered the permanent exhibit in January 2019 at the event center, a new rental facility. The Barber Park Event Center is available for corporate events, weddings, and other special parties for up to 200 guests. Renters have access to the exhibit gallery, as well as the patio and pergola area for cocktail hours.
