ISO 13506: 2008 Manikin Test

The Manikin test or Burn Injury Prediction test is a very accurate representation of what happens in real life flash fire situations. Portwest has done extensive optional manikin testing on the Araflame, Bizweld and Bizflame range of garments. The benefit of the Manikin test is that it allows users to accurately predict the real life performance of a garment and to be totally reassured that it is the best choice for their working environment. Investment in product testing is a critical part of our product development process. Portwest goes beyond the requirements of the EN standards and the results we have obtained on the optional Manikin tests validate our ongoing commitment to both product quality and end user safety. We are very proud to declare that these garments consistently outperform all other treated FR garments in the market. All results are independently veri ed by noti ed bodies BTTG and SATRA

Step 1: Themanikin is fittedwith appropriate undergarments in order to replicate a real life situation.

Step 2: The garment to be tested is fitted on the manikin.

Step 3: The manikin is exposed to flame engulfment for four seconds.

Step 4: Heat energy is recorded with data normally collected for up to 120 seconds after the burn.

Best Burn Injury Prediction Results

Understanding the results: A body map is produced which uses colour coding to indicate predicted body burn or injury. The body map will show no burns, pain, first, second or third degree burns and where these would have occurred. The calculation does not include the head or hands. There is no “Pass” or “Fail” criteria in the ISO 13506 standard. One of the most useful functions of these Manikin tests is to allow garments to be compared directly to each other under identical conditions.

Natural Fibres Many of our fire resistant (FR) garments are made from 100% cotton. This is a natural fibre and does not melt on contact with heat or flame. 100% cotton is comfortable to wear, absorbent and breathable. Cotton is the ideal solution for many industries who require flame resistant garments.
