Ricky Recorder November 2015

parents with further information. students should be thinking about which 5 subject talks they would like to listen to. There is also still plenty of time to speak to teachers in lessons about taking their subject at A-Level. This has been a busy term for our Year 13 students who are busy completing their UCAS applications. Most have now been submitted. The deadline has now passed so any students who have not yet managed to send their application are reminded to do so over the half term break. The blog continues to be updated with information for our Sixth Form students and parents. Please check it regularly. It can be found at www.rickysixth.wordpress.com or by following the link from the School website. Many students got into the spirit of things by wearing a onesie and raising as much money as possible in sponsorship. This year's Fun Run was to raise money for 3 different causes: Red Balloon Learner Centres (a charity for the recovery of bullied children), the fight for Delilah (a 9 month year old girl with neuroblastoma) and in support of the Rickmansworth School PE department. Money is still being collected so we are unable to give an accurate amount of exactly how much has been raised but we are hoping to reach the £1,500 mark again this year. This is a fantastic whole school event, with all staff and students getting involved. So a massive congratulations and thank you to all involved for your hard work in raising the money. In September Year 10 Product Design students visited the Harry Potter Studios in Leavesden. Here they had a fantastic time learning about the different careers available for designers and manufacturers within the filming industry and gained vital research on the prototyping and modelling stages of the design process. They were able to experience walking through a "hot set" and saw how sets, props and costumes are made. Since the visit the students have completed their own scaled models of sets, props and costumes for a book of their choice which have been a great success. Well done!

New Year 12 students

It has been a pleasure to welcome our new Year 12 students this term. We have our biggest ever group of new students to the Sixth Form with 39 of them joining us in September. They seem to have settled well and it is lovely to see them getting well with the students who have stayed with us from Year 11. Our prefect team arranged a BBQ for Sixth Form students on Friday 11 th September. It was a great success and they certainly remembered to order the weather to go with it! A big thank you to Natasha Collins who took the lead in organising this big event – no mean feat for someone who had only just turned 17! Sixth Form BBQ
